OP: Racial hatred is alive and well, symbolized by the American Front
In several columns, I linked the unarmed 17-year-old's (Trayvon Martin) death with America's tortured history of race relations, another needless tragedy that ripped the Band-Aid from the festering wound.
Some readers, however, suggested that I must have pounded out those columns wearing a tin-foil hat.
"Darryl and I must live in two different worlds," wrote one online poster. "… My friends and I don't mention race. I have never seen it in my eight years since I've been in Florida at my community activities, ball games, nights out, church activities …."
Or as another reader dashed off via iPhone: "The days of racism are over much to the disappointment of those who still want to use it to play the role of victims. The 60's are over, I'd like to welcome you to 2012, glad you can join us!"
