I bet YOU never had a sheriff's candidate in YOUR area hold regular cross burnings!

http://www.bonnercountydailybee.com/news/local/article_3c019a74-999b-11e1-8924-001a4bcf887a.html

Background: Shaun Winkler is running for sheriff in Bonner County, Idaho, a beautiful area north of the town I currently live in. He is also a white supremacist and a high-ranking mucky-muck in the local KKK klavern. Anyway, it turns out he holds Friday-night "cross lighting" ceremonies at his house just outside Priest River. At these meetings they have a nice little barbecue, then spend half an hour talking about who they hate, and finish after dark by igniting a cross.

If anyone wants to know why I refuse to go into Bonner County...well, as bad as Shaun Winkler is, they got guys who are worse.

The Klan held an annual picnic nearby at Stone Mountain Park until the 1970s. Protected by the sheriff's department.

I remember white supremists running political commercials.

they just went into the closet...and now they feel safe to come out sense the GOP went nuts over Obama.
They want to fight the Civil War all over again...and they believe the GOP is with them.

I am from David Duke country and saw many crosses burning in the 60's. Probably going on in other ways.

I am living in GA and appalled at all the so-called opinions by 'experts' who don't have a clue but like to exhibit their dumbness. Thick skin here!

We have very few black people in Idaho, so if you want to hold a cross burning up here you have to do it on YOUR OWN LAND. Which is what this asshole did. Our racists aren't even good at being racist, but they're prolific: we've probably got ten white supremacists for every black person north of Lewiston.

in the 50s/60s, the odds would probably say that this would be a safe bet for me to take.

A state that was populated by Confederate refugees, many of whose descendants hold onto the "old ways" to this very day.

But yes, I know a sheriff who held regular cross burnings back in the late sixties, early seventies. It was in the county next door to where I lived, a county that didn't officially rejoin the Union until the late nineties.
