(Reuters) - Yahoo Inc (YHOO.O) Chief Executive Scott Thompson is stepping down after a controversy over a fake computer science college degree on his biography, a source familiar with the situation said on Sunday.
Thompson's interim replacement, effective immediately, will be Yahoo's global media head Ross Levinsohn.
Yahoo was not immediately available for comment
Yahoo has said that Thompson, the former president of eBay Inc (EBAY.O) division PayPal, did not have a computer science degree, despite what was stated in his official company biography and in regulatory filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

We had an excellent engineer hired for a full time position after several years of contract work. It turned out he was some credits shy of his degree. My company let him go immediately. The ironic (and challenging part) for me was I still had to use him for my work, but no one could see me doing it. A very strange situation. He is now back in the building on a contract basis.

Well played, whoever pulled this one off. You just turned a pebble of a scandal into a world(er, career)-killing planetoid!
