New CBS/NYT poll: Romney leads Obama among women

(CNN) - Mitt Romney's support among registered voters who are women has grown and is slightly above President Barack Obama's, according to a poll released Monday.

The CBS News/New York Times poll shows Obama's support among female voters dropping five points over the last two months, from 49% to 44%. Romney is up 3 from 43% to 46% within that coveted demographic, according to the survey. The margin is still within the survey's sampling error, however.

Prior polling, including a mid-April CNN/ORC International poll, showed Obama ahead among women, with the CNN survey giving the president a 16-point advantage. That survey took place in the wake of a Democratic strategist and CNN contributor saying Romney's wife had "never worked a day in her life."

Monday's numbers fall within the survey's sampling error of plus or minus four percentage points.

Is it accurate? I don't know but I do think the President is fighting an uphill battle.

Neither the numbers for women voters or for same sex marriage match any other recent poll.

I would question the methodology here.

Stand outside a Catholic church and ask "Are you registered to vote? Who you going to vote for?"

Just about guarantees the result.

One off polls are useless. Further polling results can be manipulated by focus group and type and phrasing of the questions.

They used only the people who would take the poll again in their last sample, and it might skew it a certain way. People who might be more likely to repeat a poll might also be the people who have an axe to grind.

Pay off the media with $8 zillion dollars worth of attack ad expenditures, so they turn a blind eye.

+1 to your post, cal, but Mellon repug CBS and the Times don't mind lying, to help their repug friends.

If the election isn't close, they can't steal it.

Please check out the thread on this poll in the Politics 2012 forum. Someone, I'm forgetting who I apologize, thoroughly debunks their polling method.

This is a bullshit poll. I don't know if it's meant to be that way or not, but it plays perfectly into the media's "HOLYSHITCLOSEELECTION!!!!!" meme.

and Presidents DON'T lose when they are at 50% or higher, they usually out perform their approval by a point or two.

the general way the poll is done makes no sense ether.

I've said it before the media will have Romney ahead right up until 2 weeks before election day and then say it's too close to call.
