Poll: Obama By 9 Points Nationally, Wide Divisions By Religion (May 2 - 6)

Poll: Obama By 9 Points Nationally, Wide Divisions By Religion

A new national poll from the Public Religon Research Institute (PRRI) shows President Obama with a 9 point lead on former Massachusetts Gov. and presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney, 47 percent to 38 percent among reigstered voters nationally. The organization also broke the numbers out by religious affiliation, finding significant divisions within the subgroups. The TPM Poll Average of the race nationally shows President Obama with a 1.7 point lead at moment.

From PRRI:

White evangelical voters strongly support Romney over Obama (68% vs. 19%).

Catholic voters overall say that they would be more likely to vote for Obama than Romney (46% to 39%), although white Catholic voters favor Romney over Obama by a significant margin (48% to 37%).

Obama has an advantage over Romney among white mainline Protestant voters (50% vs. 37%) and religiously unaffiliated voters (57% vs. 22%).

7. For what? Determing electoral votes perhaps - but not measuring and segmenting support.

why did you even bother posting this today: http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002688097

?

BTW, the CBS/NYT poll you posted is scientifically flawed. They called back the same people they polled before and they didn't get nearly the same number of responses.

Notice also that white mainline Protestants support Obama by a big margin.

Race plays a role, gender plays a role, religion plays a role -- lots of other factors too.
