Deputies: Brevard mother killed her four children, then herself

I wasn't going to post this, but the facts jumped off the page. These kids could have been saved if the neighbor had been faster on his feet:

A neighbor told investigators they were awoken by gunfire and then heard a knock at the door. Three of the children were at the door asking for help. They appeared to be shot, said spokesman Lt. Tod Goodyear.

Thomas came out of her house and called for the children, who then returned to the house. The neighbor called 911 to report the shooting.

Goodyear said when deputies arrived to the 7200 block of Bright Avenue in the community of Port St. John just after 5 a.m. they found Pebbles suffering from a gunshot wound in the front yard.

After retrieving the teen, deputies quickly set up a perimeter. They then heard more shots ring out.

I don't understand why the neighbor didn't just take the kids into his house, and locked the door. Baitball Blogger May 2012 #2

And I don't think that mother's ashes should share the same cemetery with her children, much less the plot.

I'm not going to condemn the neighbor's actions when there is so little information to go on. It matters little in any case, the real causes of this tragedy are most assuredly elsewhere.
