The up-side of a Syriza win in Greece

Syriza is a coalition of Greek leftist parties (to the left of the Socialists)

Syriza is expected to win the next round of elections, though may not win big enough to form a government.

Syriza has a seriously left platform, including telling Greece's creditor's to go piss up a rope.

Here is why a Syriza win would be good. It would provide the maximum bargaining position. In games theory, Syriza is the "mad bomber," a player who must be mollified because he cannot be trusted to act in his own interest. The "mad bomber" is the ultimate negotiating position. (See, for example, Republicans willing to default on our national debt payments.)

So if Syriza can strike a deal with the EU it will be the best deal that could possibly have been gotten.

On the other hand, here is the down-side to a Syriza win. If they stick to their guns there will be no negotiated solution and the lives of the people of Greece will be much worse as a result.
