Should we be able to fire these people? Of course we should.
This pharmacist protection is a joke. I am fine with them not handing over the drug. But their dumb ass should be fired!
This almost seems like a joke it is so stupid!

(25,183 posts)Yes, there are people who do not agree with us. Causing them to holler that they are persecuted doesn't do a damned thing to help our cause.

(431 posts)who does. that's how it works. if the pharmacy suffers for the policy, the problem will take care of itself.

(27,557 posts)Pharmacies should have policies to hire only people who are willing to dispense all legal medications. I wonder if any of them do.

(38,613 posts)once it becomes illegal to fire someone for refusing to do their job.
Indeed, will pharmacies be allowed to ask interviewees about this? Will they be able to refuse employment? It's a clash between fundies and business, and repubs will have to choose a side eventually.

(38,613 posts)can the EMTs refuse to take them to the hospital? Can the doctor refuse to treat them?
The way I see it, if you're so uptight that your religious belief revolve 90% around other people's sex lives, then you need to go to work at a pharmacy that doesn't sell contraception. If their employer sells it and they refuse to, they SHOULD be fired!

(67,102 posts)always did go hand in hand IMO. These people are sooo uptight about their arcane religion, they have to enact it into law. And, whatever happened to separation of church and state. This law should be unconstitutional IMO. KS has used state law to impose their religious beliefs on others. Frankly, this entire law is a crock of shit!

We know they will never do that.
This is discrimination plain and simple.

(17,862 posts)accomodate Muslim women who were checkers who refused to handle pork products. A grocery store accomodated the work arrangement. Can a pharmacy accomodate a pharmacist in the same fashion? It seems like that is the conservative approach to the situation (not passing a special law protecting the pharmacist).
Which brings up the question - should a grocery store accomodate these Muslim women but not allow its pharmacists to also act their conscious? I am not saying a law should be passed in either direction, and the employer should be able to fire either who refuse to do their job. It gets a little stickier when a woman does not access to an alternative pharmacy, but is that any different that in a town that does have a grocery store which offers pork.

(38,613 posts)People don't go to school to learn how to become checkers. Go to any pharmacy or grocery store, and you'll see more checkers than anything else. If "a" grocery store allows checkers to switch places when pork comes to the register, they are free to do so. If the store has only one checker, and that checker refuses money from a customer buying something that is sold in the store, that person would not have a job.
If a pharmacy can accommodate by having multiple pharmacists, more power to them. They're not going to stock an item that they don't intend to sell.

(30 posts)I put my money where my mouth is. There are several businesses that post slogans (political and/or religious) and I happily boycott them.
I will also happily spend a bit extra to give my business to companies whose values I agree with.

(64,931 posts)What if a plumber does not want to work on a problem at Planned Parenthood?
---> Depends on the beliefs of the boss. If the plumber works for himself, then he just lost some business.
what if a telephone repairman does not want to fix a phone issue?
---> May be subject to discipline, but the huge phone companies will probably bury the issue. If he is a subcontractor, he may or may not get called back, depending on who he is working for.
What if a fireman does not want to prevent a planned parenthood from burning down? (after removing the people first)?
---> Depends on what state he/she is in.

(11,119 posts)should a new career, one in which their religious convictions won't be challenged. These pharmacists should not torture themselves by constantly wrestling with their consciences about doling out birth control pills (or maybe dick-hardening pills?).
They should just do themselves and the rest of us a favor by finding new careers. That way, we won'r have to listen to these prima donnas whiiiiiiiine about doing their jobs.......
