FL State Attorney Angela Corey sets the record straight on Inside Detroit regarding Marissa Alexande

What say you?

AUDIO: State Atty Angela Corey on the Marissa Alexander Sentencing

Marissa Alexander, the Florida mother of three facing 20 years in prison for firing what her family said was a warning shot at her abusive husband, is anything but a victim, said the state prosecutor who oversaw the case.

“She was angry” when she fired the shot, State Attorney Angela B. Corey told HuffPost. “She was not in fear.”

Corey said her office considered all the details of the case before moving forward with Alexander’s prosecution. She said the facts don’t support Alexander’s self-defense claim. Just before Alexander went into the garage and retrieved her pistol, she told Gray, “I got something for your ass,” Corey said.

While Alexander’s family and her attorney have claimed Alexander fired a warning shot into the ceiling, Corey said a bullet hole in the wall shows the gun was aimed much lower. The shot Alexander fired appears to have struck to the right of an archway between the kitchen and living room, where Gray and his two young sons were.

...that the man had attempted to strangle her, had banged her head against the wall, and was still coming after her.

But she's a woman, so God forbid she should feel -- much less express -- anger at him.

Yes it was dangerous to fire at him or at the ceiling, and it is not a good thing that the youngsters were put in danger as a result. On the other hand, none of that would have happened without him attacking her in the first place.

20 years is an outrageous outcome for her actions, which were obviously self-defense, even if she was angry while defending herself.

Of course the bottom line here is, "Stand Your Ground" laws are for men, preferably white men, certainly not for black men and most certainly not for black women. Puhleeze, people, get a grip.

...she said she had gone into the garage but could not get out the door, therefore she had to go back through the house, where he was still threatening her.

Even if that is not the case, 20 years is absolutely outrageous under the circumstances, IMNSHO.
