The world is about to see Jeremiah Wright and understand his influence on Barack Obama for the first time in a big, attention-arresting way, says the proposal, which was overseen by Fred Davis and commissioned by Joe Ricketts, the founder of the brokerage firm TD Ameritrade. Mr. Ricketts is increasingly putting his fortune to work in conservative politics.
The $10 million plan, one of several being studied by Mr. Ricketts, includes preparations for how to respond to the charges of race-baiting it envisions if it highlights Mr. Obamas former ties to Mr. Wright, who espouses what is known as black liberation theology.
The group suggested hiring as a spokesman an extremely literate conservative African-American who can argue that Mr. Obama misled the nation by presenting himself as what the proposal calls a metrosexual, black Abe Lincoln.

It's hilarious, really, that they're going this route . . . more hilarious than the fact that Conservatives have approximately BUPKIS ELSE to run on as far as a successful track record goes.

OK, to be fair, there is that "conservative" problem. They probably had "non-psychotic" on the list too, but had to remove it in order to have any candidates at all for the job.

Help promote that theological dilemma among the crazies. They only respond to fear, might as well give them something to be afraid of.

(30,885 posts)...he's smart enough to have gotten where he is right now, and smart enough to know that the intensity level of the racism and unfounded attacks is going to go through the roof.
I look at it the same way I looked at having my tonsils out, at age 26. Having your tonsils removed as an adult is no walk in the park. They give you a "fact sheet" that tells you that you will be in pain following the surgery, but by the third day, you can expect that pain to significantly increase. Mine did, it was excruciating. I had to grind my pain pills into fine powder and put them in fruit juice.
So whatever pain candidate Obama experienced in 2008 is going to be like that tonsillectomy. In 2012, it most certainly is going to increase...significantly.

(20,132 posts)however much he might be "No Drama Obama", he is a tough campaigner and has a very savvy team. They were really on top of everything McCain and the Repubs threw at them in 2008.

(30,885 posts)I think it's a perfect illustration of your comments. It's there when he needs it. He does the easygoing thing very, very well, and it might be what he's actually like in "real life." But if you poke him with a stick, he will absolutely poke you back (sometimes with a smile, other times not).
I anticipate some poking back in the days ahead.

(15,953 posts)The Jeremiah Wright story will get about as much traction as the Birther insanity. They're insane hatred of Obama is going to come through in their adds. It's going to have the same effect that Sarah Palin's Tea-Klan rallies had the last time around. It's going to come across as the vile pure race hatred that it is.
Until now we've always thought that the people who bankrolled the GOP were the sane leading the insane. Now it appears that they've all gone insane.
The smart thing to do is not to get caught up in a debate over their adds. Just keep pushing the Bain attacks.

(182,279 posts)After hours of backlash from both Republicans and Democrats, Ricketts, commissioner of the ad campaign and founder of the brokerage firm TD Ameritrade -- and whose family owns the Chicago Cubs baseball team -- said the plan was merely one of several proposals his group was considering.
Brian Baker, who heads the conservative super PAC supported by Ricketts, said Ricketts would not approve the scheme, as it "reflects an approach to politics that Mr. Ricketts rejects."

(4,291 posts)Bullshit. Ricketts must have 1, or possibly 2 people in his circle of jerks, that told him "THIS IS A LOSING APPROACH." Not because it is vile and racist but because even they understand it will backfire and RMoney is going to lose.
RMoney is going to lose anyway, but don't tell this old fuck that yet. Let him poor more $$$ into a different "More mild racist" approach. LOL

(2,739 posts)But don't want to give my money to another company just like them. I doubt there are many (if any) left leaning online brokers, but I'd settle for one that at least doesn't spend their billions (partially earned with my money) trying to buy their own right-wing politicians.

(41,832 posts)great website and customer service. I have no idea who owns it or anything.
I have two IRAs there and another joint account with my husband.
These are not tied to an employer. They are self-opened accounts since I was self-employed and my husband's work offers no retirement.
Things are down now in the market, but if you have faith things will rise over the long term, now would be a good time to buy IMO.
