A Fox News poll — yes, Fox — puts Obama ahead 46-39

It’s akin to the Vatican’s l’Osservatore Romano lionizing Martin Luther, or Pravda embracing the free market, but a new survey for Fox News — yes, Fox News — gives President Obama a seven-point lead over Republican Mitt Romney.

Fox News is an unofficial voice for the Republican Party and the political right, with multiple Romney advisers serving as pundits (without disclosing their campaign links) and a lineup of right-thinking commentators pummeling the 44th president nightly.

Still, the Fox poll shows Obama with a 46-39 percent advantage. In fact, Obama does much better in this survey than in Gallup’s daily tracking — which shows a dead-even race — and the CBS/New York Times poll that put Romney up 46-43 percent.

In the Fox News poll, conducted May 13-15 among 913 registered voters, Obama enjoys a 55-33 percent lead among women voters while trailing among men 37-46 percent. The president dominates by a 51-29 percent margin with voters under 35, but trails Romney 38-52 percent with voters over 65.
