The eternal political question
I, for one, would have liked him to be 100% positive, and even "announce" that
over and over. Maybe I am wrong
Obviously, they chose to go mano a mano.
Hope it works.

(20,441 posts)He didn't have the funds to hit back hard against the lying swiftboaters because public financing had left him in a bind financially speaking. This may have cost him some swing voters in the middle and thus the election.

(10,237 posts)Don't allow any negative attack go unanswered for more than 12 hours.
With the expansion of the web and the 24 hour news cycle, maybe even less.
PEACE!

There must a swift and hard response to these assaults.

(60,334 posts)Attack, but the truth is on Obama's side.
Truth will set you free, but you have to stand up to the attacks against you and go head to head with the enemy.

If they; can't do both with great sincere, enthusiasm it's only because they're too similar.

(6,336 posts)He has to--- the right has spent the last 4 years going after him.
AS much as people WANT to stay positive, not fighting back makes you look like a wimp.
On the campaign I worked for last year (state senate), our opponent started sending negative mailers in July and defined the campaign. We had no choice but to attack (and we did--- we even sent a mailer portraying our opponent as a vampire).
Have to attack because of the super PACs.

Hit him back harder, of course. Though since you have reality and the public interest packed in your gloves like a couple of horseshoes, that shouldn't BE hard.

Maybe Obama can go all positive at the end when people in the swing states (I never see a single ad)
are sick and tired of negativism
Obama, however, has always had a cool way, in my opinion, of trashing the opposition in a classy,
non-personal way.

(10,942 posts)But stay positive. President Obama has a solid list of accomplishments. President Obama should explain those accomplishments to the voting public. But the very moment Romney attempts to pull what he pulled on Gingrich and Santorum, President Obama should, figuratively, take Romney's head off.

(811 posts)Obama's campaign should stay positive. Let the unlimited and secretly-funded SuperPacs do all the nasty-but-necessary work.
Then let's see what we can do to get rid of the Citizen's United verdict. Although, that may require a new SCOTUS so I'm not holding my breath. This is going to take a while. A LONG while.
