My local paper is racist

The Folsom Telegraph has a crime log section. In particular the August 26th edition.... You've seen em, a rundown of the local crime in the area. (Folsom CA). The have a lot of petty theft, auto burglary etc. BUT they only describe miscreants by color ONLY when they are "Black". Twice in this one they do it. They even use "Unknown black suspect" yet use "Unknown suspect" when they are (assuming) not black. No Asian, no Latino (Cringe worthy yes) and certainly no "White" (Just as stupid as "black" IMO)..
this has been going on forever and is the editorial policy of the editors (Who publish many regional papers).

For more examples, but not this weeks go here: http://www.folsomtelegraph.com/search/site/crime%2520log

I am writing this letter and would like some help with it if you would.....

Appalled I am. reading the crime log of August 26th and I noticed one thing. that you described under forgery/fraud, the suspects as black. But you did not describe any of the other people in the log with color (White, black, Latino (Which is horrible anyway) or Indian or Asian. No, only the black people (And is "black" the right term anyway?) were described by their color. Then again, in another enrty titled "Petty theft" you again described the persons as black.

This is shameful and is a good example of institutional racism. PERIOD, there is no excuse for this deplorable reporting, singling out one race over all others. Why aren't the rest of the people described by color or race?

If you're trying to find a suspect, you need to describe them:

Male/female
Black/white/hispanic/Asian, etc.
Height
Hair color
Eye color

All that. Otherwise you won't be able to catch them.

That's paper's doing the community a disservice by not adequately describing suspects whenever possible.

(SD)-Authorities Looking For 3 Teen Runaways From Custer Facility

By: John Axtell Posted at: 08/24/2015 07:55 AM

CUSTER, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota authorities are searching for three teenagers who ran away from a youth rehabilitation center near Custer.

State Corrections Department officials say the 16-, 17- and 18-year-old males ran away from the State Treatment and Rehabilitation Academy late Sunday.

Authorities didn't identify the youths because of their age, but anyone who might know of their whereabouts is urged to contact police.

Around noon on Friday, April 13, a man entered the El Dorado Savings Bank located at 300 E. Bidwell St. in Folsom and handed the teller a note which indicated he had a gun. After the suspect collected an undisclosed amount of money, he exited the bank and was last seen walking on Coloma Street toward the rear of the bank building. The suspect is described as a white male adult in his late 30s to early 40s, 5’6", 140 pounds, with short brown hair. He was unshaven with a black mustache and goatee. The suspect was wearing a black beanie, black sunglasses, a black or dark gray long sleeve shirt with a beige logo in front with a graphic on his back (shoulder to shoulder), dark gray cargo shorts, white and black shoes, and white socks. The suspect was carrying a small black bag. If you have any information regarding this robbery, contact Folsom Police Detective Steve Wharton at CrimeTip@folsom.ca.us or (916) 930-1098.

Folsom police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man suspected of hitting and injuring a woman with a pickup truck. The driver of the truck fled the scene shortly after striking the pedestrian, a 29-year-old Folsom resident, on School Street in Folsom at approximately 1:15 p.m. on Feb. 14. Police have classified the case as felony assault with a deadly weapon. Officers met with the hit-and-run victim, who apparently suffered a broken ankle and possibly a fractured hip, at an area hospital after the incident. She said she had been walking on School Street with her 6-year-old daughter and her daughter's 6-year-old friend when a truck pulling a trailer drove by at a high-rate of speed. The woman said one of the six-year-old girls yelled at the driver of the truck, telling him to slow down. Reportedly, the driver of the truck made a U-turn and drove back toward the group, striking the woman with the truck's right front fender. The suspect was described as a thin, white male in his early 30s with short, dirty-blond hair. The vehicle was described as a newer, white, mid- to full-sized pickup truck with a lumber rack. It was an extra cab but did not have rear doors. The rear windows were tinted. There were signs on both doors that included the word side and possibly construction and deck. There was also a telephone number on the doors, possibly beginning with the numbers 983-0. The signs on the truck's door may have been magnetic. The truck was pulling a white enclosed trailer with no visible license plate. Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to contact the Folsom Police Department Traffic Bureau at 492-7785. Anonymous tips can be made at 800-78-CRIME.

Not the crime log. I am specifically referring to the crime log section of the paper, which is the most read thing in the paper...

Here is the Papers response:

Hi Ben,

Thank you for your letter. The crime logs we publish are taken directly
from the Folsom Police Department. We do not edit these reports to add
or remove any information such as race or incident details. If you have
any questions or comments regarding the content of the crime logs, I
would suggest reaching out to the Folsom Police Department directly.
Thank you for reading.

Sincerely,
