Seems like if she's against same-sex marriage, she'd deny licenses only to same-sex couples. But she stopped issuing licenses to same-sex and opposite-sex couples.
I mean, either way, she's not doing her job, but it doesn't seem like she's staying true to her faith.
Any guesses? (other than "on the advice of her lawyers", that is)

(10,602 posts)"Religious freedom" philosophy is about denying public services that defy any religious dogma. Think about all the religious taboos that would deny any public service or medical that is legal. You can really get into the weeds and not just over Christianity. Other religions have taboos that could be used as well to deny a public service.

(16,073 posts)It's BS philosophy that originated because some Native Americans used drugs during a ritual and were fired from their jobs...so now the Christian ISIS has taken up the cause to gain the right to deny services to anyone who won't follow their particular flavor of supreme deity!
In other words they can discriminate based on their "sincere religious beliefs" or SRB...which can mean anything because in their Hobby Lobby decision the cowardly SCOTUS refused to even come up with a definition of what SRB even meant!
I find it humorous that American "Christians" want the legal right to practice bigotry, and yet scream "PERSECUTION" every time someone disagrees with their views.

(146,287 posts)Nonfeasance is the charge. Among her duties as clerk is issuing marriage licenses. She is refusing to do so. She should be charged and tried.
In reality, she should resign her position immediately, since she is apparently unwilling to perform the duties of her office.
Maybe some time in jail for contempt of court will convince her.

(6,353 posts)She is pushing to be put in jail for overt failure to do her job or contempt of court or something like that.
The story that will be told is that she is being jailed for her religious beliefs.
They want her as a poster child and she's too dumb to know there's nothing in it for her.

(1,276 posts)If doing her sworn duty conflicts with her religious beliefs, then she should resign. She is wasting valuable time and resources trying to defend the indefensible and, IMO, looking like an ignorant fool in the process.
