a typical sleezeball republican running for mayor of Nashville...calls democrat anti-Christian

Fox ad attacks Barry, husband as anti-Christian

mr. fox....fucking sleezeball extraordinaire

Nashville’s mayoral runoff turned downright bitter on Monday, with Megan Barry condemning — and opponent David Fox defending — a new campaign radio ad that raises past comments from her husband to portray the couple as anti-Christian.

A Fox campaign ad airing on African-American-targeted radio accuses Barry and her husband, Bruce Barry, of opposing prayer before high school football games, opposing the National Day of Prayer and fighting against Christian organizations. It concludes by saying that Barry does not share the values of Nashville’s black community.

Allegations are based mostly on comments Bruce Barry, a longtime columnist at the Nashville Scene, made in past blog posts that include a reference to the “Jesus-Industrial Complex.” Other accusations appear centered on Bruce Barry’s role as a member of the board of directors for the American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee.

The Barry campaign gathered troops to their North Nashville field office on Monday to reject the ad, calling it untruthful, sexist and an attempt to suppress black voters and demanding that it be taken off the air. The event included a surprise endorsement of Barry from former mayoral candidate Howard Gentry — the contest’s lone African-American candidate during the Aug. 6 general election — who said he couldn’t sit in the background any longer.
