http://talkingpointsmemo.com/"As an elected official, Davis can't be fired; her impeachment would have to wait until the Legislature's regular session next year or a costly special session."
If you read the above story, this idiot cannot be fired. Nevertheless, she can be sent to jail, or fined immediately for contempt ofcourt...Now what if it were a "Liberal" Democrat who was disobeying a court order?.. several times? The media would be 24/7 on putting the "crook"in jail immediately. Supreme Court has refused the appeal. Now what?.. What a horrible person that disobeyer of court orders is.,if it were one of us. But it is one those who is a "I am listening to God" believer.. How will the media treat her??

(31,986 posts)Or for that matter many Democrats in the AA and Hispanic communities. Its a big country. Not everyone thinks like you or thinks like me. I have a feeling she will be more than happy to go to jail.

(2,516 posts)Then reality will sink in and she will make a plea deal. It is sad that there are still a large number of democratic bigots as well. My family is why I left Christianity and became a pagan.
More fun too.

(50,555 posts)As I like to say, a Southern Democrat and a Northern Republican look an awful lot alike. How do you think the teabaggers justify claiming they're a "bipartisan" bowel movement?

(67,105 posts)them to fuck off. I'm amazed this has been tolerated this far. And, I'm so F'en tired of hearing god-shit in this country as a defense against almost anything. An invisible deity from antiquity and archaic rambling texts. And millions in the US without a brain!

(45,806 posts)(Chris is off) This nut ball's atty. was being interviewed and he said "Her BIG problem is that her name is at the bottom of each of those license permits. All she wants is that her name be removed. Replace it with "Authorized by the State" or anything other than her name. The Governor could make that happen I a second. Why not just accommodate her religious beliefs?"
I don't think they should do that because what she is being asked to do is simply part of the job. IF she doesn't like it, she can quit!
But it IS or at least sounds like an easy solution.

(34,136 posts)She voluntarily ran for office. No one drafted her or forced her to take the position. If she is no longer willing to do all that the position requires she should QUIT.
Freedom of religion does not mean she can inflict her beliefs on everyone else in her county.

(50,555 posts)The Wednesday newspapers will carry an AP story about this. In the piece she states that for her this is a heaven-and-hell decision - she literally believes that if her office issues a marriage license to one same-sex couple, she will be sent to hell for all eternity.

(20,998 posts)The Kentucky county clerk whose request to deny issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples was denied by the Supreme Court on Monday has continued to refuse same-sex couples under Gods authority. When Kim Davis came out to waiting couples Tuesday, she was asked under whose authority she was denying them licenses. Under Gods authority, she said.
And there you fucking have it. Kim Davis doesn't have to yield to the law of the land, she is "Under God's authority."
I cannot begin to tell you how fucking disgusted I am that this backwoods crone deens to speak with the authority of God.
Lefty Thinker
(96 posts)It's not like a Republican legislature is going out of its way to impeach this woman. But each couple denied a marriage license by her intransigence probably has a USC Title 42, Sec. 1983 case which provides for monetary damages and, likely, for "reasonable" attorneys fees. Have you ever seen how "reasonable" goes when it's the other party paying? And most states don't indemnify for 1983 cases since the perpetrator of the tort has already been found in violation of the law by a court. So she'll spend some time in jail, some lawyers will get rich, and she will have no money for a while.

(21,563 posts)the People should seize the clerk's office and restore order. it is unconscionable for the People to simply have to accept a government official not obeying the law.
seize the office and let the courts dare to declare the licenses null and void.
quaker bill
(8,224 posts)The Governor can remove lower level elected officials for criminal acts committed on the job. This is true in FL. Now failing to issue the licenses is probably not a criminal act, but at some point in the process contempt of court can become criminal. It probably needs to go there.
Quakers at times engage in civil disobedience on religious principal. However our approach is to take the burden personally rather than foist it on others. The Meetings I serve strongly approve of same gender marriages. However we do not approve of the death penalty among other things. If somehow I ended up in a position related to that (very unlikely), my religious testimony would be to resign rather than issue a death warrant.
While I would not agree with her, I could respect her decision to resign rather than issue licenses that are contrary to her religious beliefs, given she did so promptly so as not to inconvenience others. Making her religious burden someone else's problem does not work for me. I do not find this to be a statement of faith, it is just "praying on street corners", something the Bible discourages.
It irritates me that this sort of behavior is passed off as "Christian". it isn't.
