Kentucky Clerk Fighting Gay Marriage Has Wed Four Times

Kentucky Clerk Fighting Gay Marriage Has Wed Four Times

The Kentucky county clerk facing potentially stiff penalties for refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses has been married four times, raising questions of hypocrisy and selective application of the Bible to her life.

The marriages are documented in court records obtained by U.S. News, which show that Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis divorced three times, first in 1994, then 2006 and again in 2008.

She gave birth to twins five months after divorcing her first husband. They were fathered by her third husband but adopted by her second. Davis worked at the clerk's office at the time of each divorce and has since remarried.

Davis has described her desire to strictly adhere to the Bible in stark terms and thus far has shown no sign of bending to court orders on same-sex marriage. She said Tuesday she fears going to hell for violating "a central teaching" of the Bible if she complies with the orders.

I'm an all-around solid, good guy, not without his flaws of course, and I sort of enjoy being perpetually single, but it's damned frustrating hearing about horrible people like this woman, and creepy pedos like Fogle, who have / had the whole family thing going on (multiple times as is the case with this bigot), and, like you, just can't seem to meet my partner. I seem to attract the crazies and have pretty much resigned myself to the idea that at age 50 maybe finding someone just isn't going to be in the cards.

8. Matthew 18

8 Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. 9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery."

1 Corinthians 7:10-11New International Version (NIV)

10 To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband. 11 But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband. And a husband must not divorce his wife.

Romans 7:2-3New International Version (NIV)

2 For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law that binds her to him. 3 So then, if she has sexual relations with another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress. But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress if she marries another man.

Mark 10

10 When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. 11 He answered, “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. 12 And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery."

It really is much more clear than any verse they try to apply to homosexuality.

Pretty sure the twins fathered by one guy while married to another has its very own commandment, though.

She is mentally ill. I am still tolerant of religious folks, but only when they realize that their religious beliefs do not trump societal progress and other folks' freedom and pursuit of happiness.
