Check out the unbelievably complicated marital history of Kim Davis, Christian Hypocrite:

This is the Kentucky county clerk/attention-seeker who claims it's her Christian duty not to marry same-sex couples.

Dan Savage, in the second paragraph, seems to have gotten one detail wrong: she got knocked up by her 3rd husband a few months BEFORE she divorced her first husband, not after -- but otherwise, he does an excellent job conveying the craziness of this woman's life.

http://www.thestranger.com/blogs/slog/2015/09/01/22793219/i-suppose-i-should-say-something-about-kim-davis

The Kentucky county clerk facing potentially stiff penalties for refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses has been married four times, raising questions of hypocrisy and selective application of the Bible to her life. The marriages are documented in court records obtained by U.S. News, which show that Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis divorced three times, first in 1994, then 2006 and again in 2008. She gave birth to twins five months after divorcing her first husband. They were fathered by her third husband but adopted by her second. Davis worked at the clerk's office at the time of each divorce and has since remarried.

Um... wait: Kim Davis got knocked up by her third husband shortly after divorcing her first husband and somehow managed to talk her second husband into adopting the kids she had by the man who eventually become her third husband... and she's now on her fourth husband? Jesus, the Hapsburg family tree is less complicated. But, hey, it all sounds perfectly biblical... or it would if we were talking about the Book of Mormon, it was 1890s, Kim Davis was a bearded man, and if Davis hadn't divorced husbands number one, two, and three before marrying husband number four.

I like the guy and accidentally follow his teachings more than most evangelicals, but unless you embrace Him publicly, you are going to hell. That's what they think. I don't believe in hell, and yet I try to be good.

She wasn't "knocked up by her third husband shortly after divorcing her first husband," she was knocked up before divorcing her first husband.

But she divorced #1, 2, and 3, and is now married to #4.

And now she's refusing to marry same-sex couples on the grounds that the marriages aren't biblical.

This tells me who she REALLY is and what she REALLY believes . . .

That it's just a piece of paper.

True story - my dad was moved to Fort Knox just a few months after the Loving vs VA case. My mom of course went with him.

It was NOT just a piece of paper to them (a till death do they part marriage) and it isn't for the couples trying to tie the knot that are the same sex in Kentucky.

I hope she fets thrown in jail for breaking the law. And if there aren't laws that get one thrown in jail for denying others their Civil Liberties or Rights - maybe there needs to be.

Maybe that's the next big challenge? Making those who deny criminally responsible for their bigotry?

till she agrees to resign or comply, but the lawyers for the same-sex couples asked for fines.

Too bad, because now I hear that RWers have offered to pay any fines she's assessed.

How dare she look down her nose at other Americans who will most likely get married and stay married.

Maybe she's taking out her multiple divorce issues on them?

I believe the judge ruling on this matter will see this as relevant, in that she is using religious freedom excuse but doesn't have the real belief she claims to have.

As a result, her unlawful behavior has no standing to the judge. She doesn't walk the walk, and i think that will matter to the judge.

She may raise intent in her defense, but I think the only question for the court is whether or not she's following the law.

I think her intent might be a consideration in this situation.

According to him, the oft-wedded Kim made "mistakes" in her past, BUT - and this is the important part - she has now "given herself to Christ." Translation: it's all good, nothing to see here.

Wed Sep 2, 2015, 12:50 PM

is for the Judge to send this woman to jail and authorize one of
her deputies who will agree to issue licenses--according to the law--
to resume issuing licenses to all couples who present with the
completed application.

That's why the ACLU has asked only for fines. They want to leave room for
the Judge to settle the problem. He can fine her up the wazoo, but if she
just pays the fines and refuses to issue licenses, nothing is gained. If he
sends her to the slammer to cool her heels until she agrees to issue licenses
or resign, well, then the civil system can be used for damaged couples to
sue her ass.

For my money, let her rot in jail. Let her be an example. The media will soon move
on to other issues.
