NAACP Files Complaint Against Confederate Flag At Fairmont (OH)
KETTERING -- ... Students at Fairmont have permission to fly the Confederate flag on their cars before and after school. But, for at least one family, it's time for those flags to come down ...“I almost busted into tears," said Stephanie Russell, a parent of a Fairmont student. "I was in school a long time ago, in the South. And I never had to come to school and see the Confederate flag. And, for me to come here 20 years later and to see this in Ohio, it really threw me back."
The Russell family was so disturbed by the flag, they addressed the school board last night. They pointed to the school district's code of conduct: Rule 17 is titled Non-Discrimination-Harassment. It prohibits symbols that convey hatred, contempt or prejudice ...
An investigator contacted the school principal and was assured that the flags are not permitted to be flown on school property. Foward said if they were misled, appropriate action will be taken against the school ...
