Ramos smacks O’Reilly: "You are NOT a News Man"

Jorge Ramos smacks O’Reilly: ‘I don’t think you are the right person to lecture me on advocacy and journalism’

“I’m just a reporter asking questions,” Ramos replied. “Mr. O’Reilly, I don’t think you are the right person to lecture me on advocacy and journalism when you spend most of your program giving opinions without asking questions. I can be tough with President Barack Obama, and I can be tough with Donald Trump.

“I’m a commentator — that’s what I do,” O’Reilly shot back, before grousing that he was “100 times harder” on the president. He then asked Ramos, “Why don’t you just become like me, a commentator? You’re not a news man anymore, you’re an advocate now.”

“I am simply reporting, asking questions,” Ramos insisted. “Sometimes as a reporter, you have to take a stand. When it comes to racism, discrimination, corruption, public lies, dictatorships, and human rights, you have to take a stand.”

“Nobody has ever been in a repertorial range like you have been,” the Factor host replied. “And I’m not criticizing you for your stand. I’m saying you’re in the wrong job. Be a commentator.”

What's most interesting to me about this is how Bill-O defends the "two sides to every story" line. beerandjesus Sep 2015 #1

He basically says point blank that if Jorge Ramos calls Trump out on his naked racism, that that's "his opinion".

This is exactly what's wrong with journalism in this country, and it's not often you see it laid out so clearly. There are NOT two sides to every issue. If someone is lying, they're lying: It's not "a difference of opinion". And in this case, if Trump is spewing racist shit, he's spewing racist shit, which is fundamentally NOT ok. It's not a betrayal of "objective" journalism to call a racist a racist, and to say that racism is fucking wrong.
