"SNIP.............
Larry Sabato While there are 22 presidential candidates 23 if Biden runs most of them are human tape recorders. On the top 25 or 30 issues, each has memorized a paragraph or two; mention the issue and the candidates push the play button in their heads. Almost word-for-word each time, they recite the pollster-researched, consultant-approved soundbites designed to produce a Pavlovian response in partisans.
Problem is, Americans would generally prefer to elect a human being, not an automaton. Its at least possible that a few more intractable problems would get solved if potential presidents were less inflexible or so it appears to many voters.
Whatever else you think of him, Trump is no automaton. He isnt rehearsed, at least compared to the others: We cant take our eyes off him because were not at all sure what hes going to say next.

(1,415 posts)I know we joke around here. We underestimate this guy at our peril. I actually have Dem friends supporting this guy!! He could be pres. I don't know what to think anymore. People in our great country have gone off the rails. I understand some if it but a lot of it is irrational

(2,003 posts)...he's not a right-winger.
I know that's hard to believe but it's true.
He's not an abortion warrior. He supports Planned Parenthood. He's not a Jesus Freak. He attends church once or twice a year. When he says the Bible is his favorite book, it looks disingenuous (his favorite book is probably one he wrote himself). He supports single-payer healthcare, tax hikes for the rich, gun control. He's given money to Al Sharpton, Hillary Clinton and probably a host of other Democrats.
Trump could actually run as an anti-immigration populist Democrat. What's mystifying is the support he's receiving from conservatives!
Trump is neither Republican or Democrat, conservative, liberal or even moderate. What Trump is is a Fascist. But he's promoting a new type of fascism, one not associated with spiffy military uniforms and salutes. It's Fascism 2.0.
And this is why he shouldn't be underestimated. It's easy to use "fascist!" as an denigrating epithet but history has shown, it sells well.

(7,759 posts)the pledge. This may be the flip-flop thing that starts his spiral downward? His RW followers don't even know when they have been betrayed.
