The religious right seems to have draw a line in the sand politically. The Davis caper is only just the beginning. She is the poster child of massive religious resistance in this country as far as I can tell. Plan on the RW churches to double down on cultural issues. In their mind they will have it their way eventually.
I really see no end to endeavors to make this a Christian run nation. The LGBT decisions are not really a lost cause to the fundamentalist. It is in a way a call to more resistance. And the public can plan continuing discrimination and persecution.
"Religious Freedom" is going to be an issue in this election. And the GOP and it allies and the churches are going to play that up 24/7.
We are at a crossroads where there are elements in society that will NEVER accept separation of church and state. And I believe they are going to just push prayer in schools and other agendas they have in mind.

(82,849 posts)We will certainly see an upswing in the nitwits trying to impose their narrow views on the country. Unfortunately, on so many issues, they've already lost, like Kim Davis has lost in Rowan County. They will make many brave statements, but in the end, their have shot their bolt and missed the mark. We're already onto them, and we've been winning for 20 years.
The crossroads have been in our rearview mirror since 2005. It's time we acted on it.

(45,319 posts)Let them howl all they wish. Those of us who lived through the 80's/90's with eyes open are not afraid of your religious communities.
DU is still full of idiot straights who say 'your sexual preference' or call us 'unsavory' and lots of DU members are members of anti gay faith groups. I expect that they will try to push their filth and claim their ways are unstoppable. Who cares? They are what they are, antique old creatures coughing up dated verbiage of attack. They still think they want a fight. But the fight is over.

(39,343 posts)Of course they are going to double down and be stubborn and resistant to change and logic, they believe in magical beings with powers who will give you a golden mansion if you are good and obedient or an eternity in a pit of fire if you don't follow along.
I've stopped trying to debate them.
