Has to be rooted in the Verse in Leviticus, since that the only place it's addressed in the entire bible.
Let's look at some of what she probably ignores, that's also listed as abominations in Leviticus. Don't touch a pig, much less eat one. same with shellfish. Any bets on how mant BLTs, BBQed ribs, ham sandwiches and bacon strips she's enjoyed? How about shrimp cocktails? Crab legs or lobster?

Has she ever labored on the Sabbath? Laundry? Mowed her lawn?

She is likely wearing blended fabrics in her "perp walk" photos.

The outrage over those things, and more, should be equal. Since it isn't, the outrage over the one verse about man laying with man as woman can't be considered real.

As of the census[19] of 2010, there were 23,333 people, and 7,956 households residing in the county. The population density was 83.4 per square mile (32.2/km2). There were 10,102 housing units at an average density of 34 per square mile (13/km2). The racial makeup of the county was 96.1% White, 1.5% Black or African American, 0.1% Native American, 0.8% Asian, 0% Pacific Islander, and 1.0% from two or more races. 1.3% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 7,956 households out of which 19.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.40% were married couples living together, 10.20% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.20% were non-families. 27.00% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.20% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.91.

The age distribution was 20.30% under the age of 18, 23.50% from 18 to 24, 25.90% from 25 to 44, 20.00% from 45 to 64, and 10.40% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 30 years. Both the unusually large portion of the population in the 18-to-24 range and the relatively low median age are mainly because of the presence of Morehead State University. For every 100 females there were 94.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.10 males.

The median income for a household in the county was $33,081. Males had a median income of $26,777 versus $20,104 for females. The per capita income for the county was $13,888. About 15.90% of families and 21.30% of the population were below the poverty line, including 20.80% of those under age 18 and 16.20% of those age 65 or over.

I was over on the Americans United for Separation of Church and State website this morning.

Here's part of their post updating the Kim Davis story:

But Davis’ actions are probably moves in a long game.

There’s evidence she planned her refusal before she even took office. According to BuzzFeed News, Rowan County Attorney Walter Blevins Jr., told the court earlier this summer that Davis informed him of her objection to marriage equality shortly after her election.

“Kim and I have conversations,” he said. “And she did tell me early on, before the [Obergefell] decision was made, that if it was to allow same-sex marriage that she could not do that in her moral judgment. She just could not do it.”

There’s speculation, too, that the Liberty Counsel is taking advantage of Davis. The firm does have a well-documented history of anti-gay legal activism, and Staver said in March that if the high court legalized marriage equality he “personally will advocate disobedience to it.”

It looks like he finally found his case.

And in a side bar to their update:

Whatever the outcome of her case, Davis only has herself to blame for her dilemma. She clearly understood that she’d likely have to confront marriage equality as county clerk, and yet ran for the office anyway.

Deputy clerk
Davis served as Rowan County chief deputy clerk, reporting to her mother, Jean W. Bailey, for 24 years.[12] Kentucky law permits elected county officials to employ their family members and to determine their compensation; it is common practice in the state.[12]

In 2011, county residents complained about Davis' compensation, an annual wage of $51,812 and an additional $11,301 in overtime and other compensation during 2011.[12] Davis earned substantially more than the county's other chief deputies, including $38,000 for the Chief Deputy Sheriff Joe Cline and $36,000 to the Deputy Judge-Executive Jerry Alderman, neither of whom receive overtime pay.[12] The County Fiscal Court reviewed the compensation of clerks in the office and voted unanimously to cut the department's salary budget by one-third for 2012.[12]

2014 election
In 2014, Bailey chose not to run for re-election.[13] Davis then ran for county clerk as a Democrat.

At a candidate forum, Davis said she was best qualified for the position because of her 26 years of experience in the clerk's office.[14] Candidate Elwood Caudill Jr. said he would save taxpayers' money by increasing efficiency and delivering excellent customer services while drawing on his 17 years of experience with public records.[14] Candidate Charlotte Combess said she was qualified for the position because of her experience budgeting for her two businesses and her work for Morehead State University's financial aid and admissions offices.[14]

Davis won the Democratic Party primary,[13] and advanced to the general election against Republican John Cox.[15] She defeated Cox in the general election.[16][17] Following her election, Davis told the Morehead News, "My words can never express the appreciation but I promise to each and every one that I will be the very best working clerk that I can be and will be a good steward of their tax dollars and follow the statutes of this office to the letter."[1]

On January 5, 2015, she took the oath of office and began serving her four-year term (ends January 7, 2019[18]) as the Rowan County clerk.[19] As county clerk, she receives an annual salary of $80,000.[3][8]

I don't think people plan around being able to get anything done after 5 at "city hall".

The former Sheriff here in Richmond VA HAD a deal where she could assign herself her own overtime and vacation. She was voted out a few years ago after it was determined that she was getting paid for 14 or 15 months a year. Oh and some of the locks at the jail didn't work - the jail without air conditioning.

I have worked for and with agencies in small towns.
And I can tell you the office holder often starts feeling they ARE the job, that they own the job, that they are one and same and forever will be.
One thing that contributes to that feeling is that in small towns, whole families and even generations have worked in the same office/firm/company, over the years, and it is real easy to know practically everyone in town, their families, their history..it is all one big extended family.

My agency once hired an office manager whose job it was to maintain the client records, and oversee 2 receptionists who made appointments with clients.
The sort of thing you are familiar with when you go see your doc, where usually 2 or more people are in the front reception office.

Except THIS manager would stay in an a closed door office, light candles ( fire Depot violation) listen to the radio and did not want to be disturbed by anybody.
( Remember Major Major from Catch 22?)

When her boss confronted her, she burst out..." but all those people ( meaning staff and clients) bother me when I am trying to do something"

and he said to her...in a VERY amazed tone..." Have you not read your job description, where you are SUPPOSED to be coordinating with staff and clients
IN the reception office?"

She was gone in a week.

I honestly could not believe her husband's *almost* unintelligible statement yesterday. His poor wife is being persecuted; she's being punished for exercising her religious freedom and she's willing to stay in jail for as long as it takes. Apparently there's a war against religion (read: Christians) in this country and they're all afraid of what the government is going to do to them.

I expect Davis will take this as far as she can and I'm sure the fundies have promised to put money in her pocket.

It's sick.

The one who adopted her children that were fathered by husband #3 while Kim Davis was still married to husband #1?

I keep returning to her multiple marriages and her adultery for the same reason Dan Savage (in the video embedded in a post above) - adultery and divorce are condemned much more often in the Bible than same sex relationships are. But Kim Davis ignores her own transgressions in order to use the power she holds as county clerk to withhold rights from people she deems not worthy of equal rights.

If she's too stupid or pigheaded to understand the depths of her hypocrisy then she is too stupid to hold that office. She is certainly being used by Liberty Counsel.

Sat Sep 5, 2015, 12:31 PM

Don't you know that being 'saved' wipes the slate clean of past sins, and gives a person the right to judge and condemn others who are not 'saved'?

That's what we're observing here - the self-righteous, holier-than-though hipocrisy that epitomizes the fundie Christian. Completely the opposite of what Jesus intended.

Kim Davis works for the government and must follow the rules of her employer, or quit. She can do whatever she wants privately, but not in her role as clerk. Religion has no part of it.

And exactly the reason I left christianity and religions behind a long time ago. Every one of them has some mechanism to wipe out past sins and to allow their followers to pretend to be purer and holier than everyone else - even when (as you said) the founders and leaders say not to do that.

I totally agree with your last paragraph.

Divorce only happens...
“because of the hardness of your hearts” (Matthew 19:8).

What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." —Matthew 19:6

Taken by itself, this Scripture can be interpreted numerous ways. However, Jesus plainly stated in Matthew 19:8 that God never permits divorce, and that divorce is only caused by a hard heart, “He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.” Jesus clearly taught forgiveness in Matthew 18:22, not 7-times, but 70 times 7. Divorce is rooted in self-righteousness and an unwillingness to forgive. Notice carefully that Jesus called remarriage is adultery, but He never addresses the issue of divorce itself, because divorce is a sin, period. "
