Did PetSmart Kick Out a Rescue Group to Make room for a FOR-PROFIT Rescue Group?

Eleventh Hour Rescue has operated an adoption center out of a PetSmart in Flanders, New York for the past four years. They’ve helped find forever homes for over 10,000 dogs and cats in this time, but for whatever reason, they won’t be doing so going foreword.Linda Schiller, Volunteer President and Founder of Eleventh Hour Rescue is saying they got an order to evacuate the store as of September 25th.

They aren’t getting much of a reason out of PetSmart, and apparently they aren’t really telling anyone what is going on.“I’m unhappy with how it was handled after being there for four years. We’re a good presence in the community and I thought things were going fine,” Schiller said. “They refused to give us a reason. There’s got to be a reason for this and it’s got to be something out of left field. I asked them if we did something wrong so we could make sure to not do it again. But they refused to give any information. I’m baffled.”Schiller received a letter mentioning construction work about to be taking place at the store. However, the letter didn’t say anything about moving back in when it was completed. They don’t even know if they are going to be allowed to reapply for the space.

The info about for-profit is at the comments...for the life of me how can a rescue group be FOR-PROFIT? Regardless, PetSmart handled this badly....

it doesn't appear that St. Hubert's (the org the poster said was for profit) is for-profit.

They are registered as a 501C3:

St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center is a registered 501(c) (3) non-profit organization—Federal Tax ID 22-1627726. Our animal welfare and community service programs are supported by contributions, grants and bequests for program continuation and expansion.

It's disgraceful behavior. They've had a working relationship with Petsmart for 10 years, and 4 years ago Petsmart approached them about working out of their store. Petsmart initially gave them only until 9/17, then revised it to 9/25 because their contract required 30 days notice.

4. It looks like they are switching to another non profit agency

I don't see anything that they are switching to a for profit rescue.

They are switching to St. Huberts. A 501c3 nonprofit.

I think 30 days can be short notice especially for a very small organization, but I don't see any problem with petsmart changing organizaitons they want to work with.

to publicize. if there were personality issues, maybe they didnt want to smear anybody, just wanted to move along.
i dont know anything about the situation, but i sure have run into rescue orgs that are not the most rational people.

Of course, the rescue I volunteer for hold events at PetSmarts, we don't operate out of their store. They like it when we hold events there because people who are adopting buy stuff when they adopt a pet.
