Conservatives LOVE them some socialism

http://thinkprogress.org/2008/10/27/palin-shares-wealth/

Just last month, in an interview with Philip Gourevitch of the New Yorker, Palin explained the windfall profits tax that she imposed on the oil industry in Alaska as a mechanism for ensuring that Alaskans “share in the wealth” generated by oil companies:

“And Alaska—we’re set up, unlike other states in the union, where it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs. … It’s to maximize benefits for Alaskans, not an individual company, not some multinational somewhere, but for Alaskans”

Isn’t that special? Karl the Marxist might have said exactly that, supposing that he had written in schizophrenic word salad instead of academic German. The catch is that conservatives think socialism is so wonderful that it should only be available to white (and/or rich) people. In contrast, social democrats think that public goods are good, and that they should be for everybody.

Socialism = public goods for everybody.

I'm unsure why some folks post old stories with provocative headlines as if it were something new, but excluding the date is unhelpful at best.

If you have a link indicating that Palin has changed her mind about the Alaska "ownership in common" thing, please post it.

Look, I don't know why this garners a "what the fuck" on your part, but any damn fool knows it is important to recognize the timeframe in which something occurs. If you dislike someone pointing out that this article is seven years old, then I suggest in the future you either find more recent articles to make your point (the best solution and the basis of a stronger argument), or have the common courtesy of telling people.

and don't touch SS and Medicare you Mexican Commies! they HAVE to think this way, that the social-services budget has to be cut, that they pulled themselves up through hard work and the free market, that the "U.S. Treasury" on the checks is some sort of lottery for being white

6. They love Socialism as long as it doesn't benefit the poor in any way.

It's this inherent and classist need to feel like you're better than someone less privileged than you. It's why I never want to hear their "politics of envy" bullshit when I say the wealthy have far too much money.
