(53,764 posts)Abby Martin does a great job and the author David Vine's book, "Base Nation" is on my list now.
Another worthwhile book on this is "Overthrow: America's Century of Regime Change" by Stephen Kinzer which outlines the incredible factoid that we as a nation has been involved in foreign wars, invasions, occupations, coups and assassinations CONTINUOUSLY to the present without interruption since we overthrew the Hawaiian monarchy in the 1890s at the behest of ex-pat American planters who wanted more acreage for their sugar and pineapple plantations.
From Hawaii to Iraq and on-going into Iran if the repugs get their way.
I like to think that if most Americans were aware of this we would stand up and overthrow the empiricists, corporatists and militarists in our midst. Most are not unfortunately as the empiricists, corporatists and militarists control our media.

(12,712 posts)Her Breaking The Set was a very informative and probing show. I was sorry to see it go.
This episode of Empire Files is interesting and generates a question for me:
I must disclose that I am supportive of Bernie Sander's campaign. So, I wonder what Bernie's response would be to this show and how he would react to and respond to the impact and nature of our current military machine, considering the pervasive complexity of its current status. It does not seem that we will be dismantling it anytime soon.
It seems that it would take massive and sweeping reform to transform it and transfer the copious amounts of resources, finances and manpower to other venues. Standing up to the deeply entrenched Military Industrial Complex would challenge the deeply entrenched cabals of power and invite not only a confrontation, but could incite the very same tactics utilized in other countries to quell dissent and maintain control.
