San Antonio Referee Pummeled by Two Football Players

A San Antonio school district has launched an investigation and suspended two football players who ran forcefully into a referee during a Friday night game.

The two John Jay High School football players were caught on video from two different angles pummeling the referee while he watched a play on the field. One ran into the referee from behind and while he was down, another player knocked into him. It's not clear from the video whether either player intentionally hit the referee.

"The two players in question have been suspended from the team and school pending further investigation," Stan Laing, executive director of athletics for the Northside Independent School District, said in an email to NBC News.

The kid who blindsided this referee should be in jail for aggravated assault, IMO.

Apparently, the players were pissed off about a "bad call" from that ref. So, out of an abundance of testosterone, they decided to blindside block the guy.

A clear, intentional attack on some guy out there officiating their game. I'd charge that kid with assault and battery, at least.

But, it's OK, because Texas football...

In Texas, football is less a full-contact sport, and more a blood-sport.

I played football in junior high in Spring, Texas. There was one guy on the team who hated me for no reason I was ever able to figure out. he took it out on me during scrimmages. After a play was finished, he'd run up behind me and bash me like that kid in the video with the referee.

The coaches never did or even said anything about it. I guess they wanted to keep our blood up and our aggression levels elevated.

Those kids will get a slap on the wrist. Nobody with any relationship with them wants those kids to be good citizens. They want them to be good football players. They'll end up being keynote speakers for the Future Wife-Beaters And Dog Torturers Of America.

be suing the team, the school and the individuals for injury, a hit like that can cause spinal injury. Those entitled little toads needs some painful discipline... seems like they might not "get it" unless there's pain involved.

6. Wow. That's very bad. Bench both players for the season.

That kind of stuff cannot be tolerated and demonstrates they don't
have the necessary judgment to be playing football.

They'll be lucky if the ref doesn't sue their butts.
