What the hell? Hydrocortisone suppositories. Why not? These things cost a lot of money w/o insurance. IS this related to the ACA?

(28,394 posts)They are called Anucort-HC and are by prescription. They contain hydrocortisone. They used to be a $5 generic.

(28,394 posts)They wanted $155 for a box of 24. I called the doctor and we appealed, but were refused. He was irate, saying that is was a $5 generic and should be covered! The only ones OTC are Prep H, which are not medicated. The pharmacist told us that other ones are not being made anymore. If you find out what is going on, or a good alternative, please PM me, OK?
I have UPMC insurance and fought with them for weeks over something so ridiculous. We are going to look at other plans starting in Oct. for 2016.

(507 posts)where I buy two of my medications that insurance will no longer cover and they have a medicine called Anusol HC suppositories - qty 24 for $50.
The pharmacy saves me a ton but what I do spend is not reimbursable through our HSA. Big Mountain Drugs is the name of the pharmacy. I've used them for over two years and they have saved me thousands - that isn't an exaggeration either. I pay less than 1/6 of what I would have to pay at the local Safeway or Costco pharmacy.

(111,124 posts)at Walmart and Costco. My docs are all well trained, if it's not generic, forget it.
The most expensive is the antirejection eyedrop, $80 a bottle. I can get at least 4 months out of one of those, though.
REP
(21,691 posts)$20 for 100 days supply vs $40 for name brand - but $40 for 12 vials of Lantus is much better than the nearly $3K retail cost. My cat also uses Lantus, so he gets the last 12 units or so I can't draw with my needles but can with his.

(44,571 posts)The price jumps havent gone unnoticed by consumers and politicians, with Rep. Elijah E. Cummings and presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders introducing a bill which would require drugmakers to provide a rebate to Medicaid when prices of generics rise above the rate of inflation...More

(34,131 posts)Seriously, I saved a bundle with them on a hydrocortisone cream that would have been almost $300. With the coupon from GoodRx.com they were $30.
