I meant to watch the premiere but missed it. I hope he's still good.

(20,709 posts)Not as good as his old show, but then on CBS that's probably not possible.

(43,173 posts)I only watched his Comedy Central show occasionally, although his character was pretty funny. I loved him in Strangers with Candy with Amy Sedaris. That was eons ago.

(3,578 posts)He is not in character.
He did some political stuff, and will surely continue to do so. Far better than Fallon's political material, which is weak, IMO.
I thought the first episode was quite funny and I'm sure it will only get better once he hits his stride.
Check out his Trump piece:
Full episode is probably online at CBS.

(27,315 posts)This resulted in a very choppy show.
We can only hope that they will find a format that fits in the 40 minutes the show is allowed.

(14,093 posts)Sounds like they had a rush job trimming it all down to fit.
Some of the best stuff ended up as outtakes on the website.
I'd like to see him change the talk show rules and scrap the monologue, just go straight to the desk and play to his strengths.
One thing I noticed is that Letterman's crew always managed to make the set seem so much bigger (when you visit in person, it's stunning how tiny it is), but, at times, the new crew, possibly not adjusted to their new locale, made the show feel a little claustrophobic.
The second half was much better, once he brought out the guests. He's light years ahead of the Jimmys as an interviewer, and asked Jeb! some tough questions. And the closing music finale was great. Gotta love Mavis.
Overall, it was pretty solid, but they still have some bugs to work out as they grow into it.

(7,759 posts)Colbert really didn't give Jeb time to respond (I am no fan of Jeb') but it bordered the rudeness of Chris Matthews.
His singing surprised me and was good, I thought.
Best part of the show, to me, was the music.

(70,681 posts)I could have done way without JEB Crow Shrub but Stephen got in some digs despite the politeness. Could have done without the demonic whatever, but the TRUMP long segment was fantastic and went over the top with Oreos.
I had never watched more than 30 seconds of FALLON and kept asking in Lounge what in the world was funny about him, but when Dave's slot went vacant I had to suffer through longer portions and just re-confirmed my detestation for FALLON. I'm resolving to not miss any Stephen insofar as possible.
