both business deals and diplomacy involve furthering your best interests. In business deals it is about money and profit. In diplomacy it is about power, prestige, economic advantage and other self interests of the parties involved. Both involve negotiation and compromise, give and take. The goal of both is to advance yourself to a better position according to your interests.

Trump obviously believes he is good at this.
