Democrats Rise Up And Hand Mitch McConnell A Humiliating Loss By Blocking Iran Resolution

http://www.politicususa.com/2015/09/10/democrats-rise-hand-mitch-mcconnell-humilating-loss-blocking-iran-resolution.html

Democrats rose up and handed Mitch McConnell a humiliating defeat. Senate Democrats blocked the Iran disapproval resolution from moving forward by a vote of 58-42.

The vote went as expected with all Republicans plus four Democrats supporting the resolution, and the rest of the Democrats plus the two Independents voted no. Without the 60 votes needed for advancement, the bill was blocked.

Before the vote, Senate Majority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) preemptively whined about Democrats, “Just a few short months ago, Senators of both parties came together to pass a bipartisan bill based on an important principle: that the American people, through the Congress they elect, deserve a say on one of the most important issues of our time. We rallied around that principle, voting 98-1 to ensure the American people would have a real say on any deal with Iran. What a tragedy it would be then if, at the very last moment, some of those same Senators decided to filibuster to prevent the American people from having a real say on this incredibly important issue. I know some of our colleagues are currently under immense pressure to shut down the voice of the people. But I ask colleagues to reflect on the gravely serious nature of the issue before us. I ask colleagues to consider the expectations they set with their constituents when they voted for the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act.”...

Mitch McConnell set himself up for this failure by refusing to allow a clean up or down final vote. McConnell’s game was to make Democrats go on record in support of the deal. His plan backfired because the anti-war position is the more popular in the country. Democrats are happy to block the deal.

But that doesn't stop the whining legions of the Butthurt Brigade from skittering out to complain about the mean meanie Democrats. Well, it's not like the Senate had any other business - like the federal budget - to attend to before the end of the month. Isn't it grand that they spent a day on this exercise in futility?

He may be a nasty sonovabitch, but he knows the score and he knew that this game was already over. He has better things to do than fight the Tea Party's lost causes.

That is the only program they have and it is driven by a terrible need to be the opposition to anything the President wants to do. They will invent ways to interfere, to appear to delay, to attack Iran's so-called cash windfall and the like.
Neither Bibi nor AIPAC will be deferred by this either since they have too much at stake. We will yet see more of their Ugly Diplomacy in action so long as Bibi is in office. If anything there will be much more of it, at least until after the 2016 elections.

His war machine buddies are "the people" he's speaking about. They're probably all in tears because they can't make bank off of killing brown people.

BTW, Mitchie, how much cocaine has your father-in-law smuggled on his ship this week?

Edit to add: and how many times has McConnell voted AGAINST helping our veterans, the same people he willingly sent into two wars? Mitchie and his pals get hard-ons when it comes to making life misery for others.

Not gonna believe a poll from such a shoddy "news" corp.

That's one poll, and I think most Americans are sick of war.

So you buy CNN's crap if you want, but remember that their parent company will make a lot of money if we wage more war. There is an inherent conflict of interest in any mainstream media site releasing poll data concerning war, because all mainstream media sites are owned by vicious, greedy warmongering chicken hawks.

or an escalation of conflict.

You believe in the polls if you want to; I think they stink like you-know-what.

Two things doesn't help...
1. Obama had done a horrible job selling this to the people.
2. Iran's leadership even to this day is screaming "death to America."

Also, it doesn't eliminate the possibility of war. If Iran cheats at the deal, we are back to square one. Even Hillary says she wouldnt hesitate to use military force.

This is not a peace treaty.

but shouldn't we do everything in our power to avoid war? That's what this deal is about.

Americans are so smug about war sometimes, because we haven't had a long, protracted, destructive war on our own soil that anyone living can remember. Reality check: War is HELL ON EARTH.

It makes sense for us to do everything in our power to avoid creating hell on earth for anyone else. We don't look at the "enemy" and mimic them; we live by our own ethics.
