Listen to the rhetorical bullshit from GOPPERS, GOPPER candidates, the RW and fundamentalists. They fully understand what the Constitution and democracy is all about. THEY WANT TO REPLACE IT ALL with their own version of the US. The fact is they demand a white supremacist fascist theocracy. And they will accept no compromise on the issue. Their agenda is what all of our elections are about. And voter apathy might just give it to them.
They are now very open about their intentions.

(58,785 posts)continuation of the backwards and incompetent conservative and libertarian policies that are destroying our nation of the people, by the people and for the people.
Our choice, whoever he or she is, will probably face JeBush!, who, among many incompetent and backwards notions, let slip how he thinks by advocating a return to SHAMING unwed mothers (and their unfortunate families and children of course) as a means of control. And some of us think our teen suicide rate is too high now...
If not him, perhaps servant of oligarchy Scott Walker, an implacable worker-rights foe, and possibly a scary double-high authoritarian who shouldn't be trusted to run a county animal shelter.
Or John Kasich, who was a high-level manager at Lehman Bros. right up to the 2008 collapse when he had to go find another job -- as, again, a particularly business-friendly Republican governor.
And this doesn't even begin to address these types' sympathies for and what they would all owe to the millions on the social and religious right who are determined to rewrite the principles for which we stand.

(46,697 posts)They just want to deconstruct the First and the Fourteenth Amendment.
They could probably push their supremacist ideals through church rights. Easiest place to have a segregated community is a church setting. Everything else would have to be taken over through tribal networking and breaches of fiduciary responsibility.

(417 posts)and are now chomping at the bit to completely undermine SCOTUS, manipulating caseloads, attempting to bring forth just the right legal decision to topple control their way, recent attempts having failed (marriage equality, etc.)
Anyone not stunned by the conservative inanities tumbling from the mouths of their "presidential candidates" in response to our very real challenges... well, they really need to pay closer attention. It's truly scary.

(13,852 posts)It's a phenomenon that needs to be addressed by the Obama Administration before it takes hold and becomes the norm in parts of the US. I can imagine a President Trump encouraging this kind of behavior, it fits with his tough guy image.

(23,082 posts)They come out so strong against Sharia law, but it's because they want the Christian theocratic law to be supreme, which is pretty much the same thing. They say they value families, then do everything possible to ensure that once the child is born he/she doesn't have a decent chance at growing up to be an effective self-supporting person. They say they are for the middle class, then pass laws giving money to companies that move their divisions overseas, so middle class jobs go away and many workers fall into poverty.
Hypocrites and liars describes most Repugs very well.

(85,373 posts)but in a way that refines the original precepts and updates the language to deal with issues resulting from modern technology and recent experience that the Constitution 1.0 didn't cover.
I've been drafting Constitution 2.0 in my spare time. The entire first section has to do with Ecology: what one can, must and must not do to the earth: land, sea and air sand even near space and the Moon; and the genomes including human, plant, single-celled, and other animals.
Then of course there is a clearer definition of who all is human and what inalienable rights each is endowed with; and very strict limits on corporations, with special laws on public monopolies not to be operated for anyone's profit: banking, utilities, education, and the government itself, which shall not be privatized, period, but run under the long-abandoned civil service codes.
If there are enough like-minded people, we can fix what's broken, and shut out the crazies and the religiously impaired. If we act first, and are prepared.

(40,416 posts)The GOP has:
* a majority of the state legislatures
* a majority of governorships
* a majority in the US House of Representatives
* a majority in the US Senate
* a razor thin margin in the US Supreme Court
So, by all means, let's all infight for years about the prospective 2016 presidential nomination.
A little history lesson: United we stand, folks. You know the rest.

They use religion to dupe the masses, but they want no theocracy.
Once in power, it will be neverending war on humanity, including nuclear war. The monarchs will be safe in their underground cities.

(2,382 posts)The malevolent forces behind THAT little tidbit of evil are the ones we should really watch out for. The sideshow that is the Republican primary food fight is just a bit of misdirection to make us take our eyes off what these bastards are REALLY up to. A classic case of the disorder infecting the entire country, AD/OS*.
