http://www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/davidbadash/huckabee_same_sex_marriage_is_illegal_because_it_s_left_the_country_in_a_state_of_confusionBut the Supreme Court's Obergefell decision was not confusing, or especially complicated. The June ruling that found same-sex couples do indeed have a civil right to marriage made that fact clear like it or not to everyone. Everyone, except Mike Huckabee....
Huckabee says just because the Supreme Court struck down the bans nationwide on same-sex marriage does not mean it's actually legal for same-sex couples to marry, since no legislative body since has written and passed a law saying so. In Huckabee's world, crossing the street would be illegal unless there were a specific law supporting it....
"This is where this all gets very confusing. And its why the haste to rush into implementing same-sex marriage is so ridiculous and, frankly, Tony, its why its so illegal is because this has left the whole country in a state of ambiguity and confusion."

(29,503 posts)He sure spends a LOT of time thinking about gay sex and gay people, doesn't he.
Straight men here can attest to whether they spend as much time thinking and talking about gay sex and gay people as Huckabee does.

(5,141 posts)Was he *always* this stupid or is he just playing it up for the election? I mean a guy who hangs around with Ted Nugent has to be missing a substantial portion of his brain, that's a given, but he is like Loiue Gohmert and Sarah Palin all mixed up in one idiotic package.

(45,319 posts)is. I would offer that straight people have not bothered to deal with him for the last say, 23 years and that's why he's still around to continue and expand his venom.
1992 he suggested relocation camps for people with HIV and those 'at risk'. 1992 was well past the point of mystery around the transmission of HIV, everyone including Ronald Reagan knew that it was not transmittable via casual contact of any sort.
So he was able to recommend camps for tens of thousands of Americans without any reaction from people outside the group he was threatening with camps. Straight folks, they make many excuses for anti gay bigotry. Always.

(5,141 posts)I lost many friends to AIDS in the early and mid 80s and I have some very close friends who are still alive all these years later because of the new cocktails of drugs available. Although I'm a hetero woman, I got a lot of shit from people because GASP, I hugged my gay HIV friends, brought them food when they were too weak to walk etc. The hate shown these people back then was enough to make any clear thinking person enraged with fury.
And now I've learned that his hate campaign against our gay brothers and sisters has been one of his consistent pieces of BS rhetoric made to gin up his base. Digesting piece of shit...the sooner he's relegated to obscurity the better.
Thank you for edifying me; now for me he's not just a clown to be laughed at, he's an object of scorn to be loathed.

I have little doubt that Steve Shiffrin, Larry Tribe, or Richard Fallon, my respective professors in those three courses, could explain it in language simple enough so that even Hammerhead Huckabee could understand it.
