Thank you Obamacare

Our insurance situation is changing and I will no longer be covered on wife's healthcare. (details aren't important and it's nothing bad)
Checked with the NY State exchange and I can get pretty good insurance, $600 deductible with 20/80% copay for about $450 mo.
That is less than some of my friends pay with a COBRA. Less than I thought it would be. I also thought I would end up with a very high deductible and out of pocket, but I can get this better level of care. It's still a good chunk of change, but it's doable.

but thanks to President Obama nobody can make you fill out questionnaires about your health issues, refuse to cover pre-existing conditions, or refuse to cover you period.

It won't. Not until we cease to see healthcare as a for profit business, and see it and treat it as a human right.

I doubt I will get to see single payer system here in my life time.

it's called Medicare. During the ACA debates the idea of Medicare for all, opening it to any who want to pay in was put forward. A lot of support but the votes fell short. In the general public their was majority support for it.
So it can work here.

Is that what is labelled a gold plan on the insurance market ?

I am getting my healthcare from work and i contribute about $200.00 per month for zero deductible and no coinsurance. I am glad my company is generous in that regard. If I had to pay for myself I can see it would be around the numbers you quote since my employer oays for 2/3 of it. In your case after the 600.00 is paid you probably have another safeguard which is the max out of pocket. mine is 3500.00.

the silver plan would be less, but with a $2000 deductible. This works better for me in the long run.

got 4 more years to medicare, and would be otherwise scared shitless over having to get insurance in the meantime.
thanks obama for the freedom.

until Medicare kicks in. This will still make things tight, but we can live with it. The alternative of no insurance (which would happen without Ocare) could be disastrous.

have very bad luck, as well as several chronic health problems.
begging the ex to wait 4 years for the divorce to be final so i can stay on his insurance is just not an option.

back in 2000 when he said that single payer would unleash a flood of small businesses.
dont think anyone thought about the flood of unhappy spouses.

at age 62 thanks to Obamacare. We went with a lower cost silver plan. Dr. visits cost $0, we get one annual wellness exam every year cost $0. It doesn't pay for all our meds, but it does pay part of the costs.

nothing worrisome, but it means I see some Drs a couple times a year. So the lower deductible from the gold plan helps.
I also tend to break a toe or a rib or sprain something to often.
