http://harbin.org/Right now there are a number of fires going here in CA and this one is the Lake County fire. I also know a bunch of people in the Calaveras area who are evacuated right now.....
So sad. I've been there many times, but not enough really and love the place. Great energy there. Not a rich guy spa, but a spa for the rest of the world. It will be missed. Hope they can rebuild better than ever.

The town in the above photo (Middleton) is now gone according to reports.
On the other side the Butte fire has taken a small town of Mountain ranch, where I used to go occasionally to a Mountain man's festival. Nice small downtown, apparently GONE .....

Still another fire in California is causing havoc. The Valley Fire reported at 1:24 p.m. PT on Saturday grew to 10,000 acres within six hours. By 10 p.m. it had exploded to 25,000 acres and at 6 a.m. Sunday CAL FIRE PIO Daniel Berlant said it had burned 40,000 acres.
There are unconfirmed reports that dozens of homes have burned but the actual number has not been released by authorities. The towns of Cobb, Middletown and Hidden Valley were some of the areas hardest hit. There is a report that a school burned in Middletown.
Many areas along Highways 175 and 29 are under mandatory evacuation orders, encompassing at least 17 miles along those two highways

The Rough Fire burning in Fresno County continues to grow. The wildfire has scorched more than 128,000 acres, making it the 17th largest fire in California's history. Containment is estimated at 29 percent.
On Saturday, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office issued evacuation warnings for the area along Hopewell Road north of Highway 180 and east to the Sequoia National Forest boundary. The blaze has also forced dozens of families in Dunlap from their homes.

(3,569 posts)is pretty bad air quality wise but this must be incredible. I am in Folsom and we are getting some smoke and people are complaining. I think about being closer how bad it would be. Here's to the firefighters and the people that are seeing their houses go up in flames...

(32,786 posts)I've never seen high-school athletics, outdoor sports of all kinds cancelled. My cars are covered in ash. It looks like it's foggy outside, but it's smoke. And to top if off it's hotter than you know what.
I can't even imagine being one of the hundreds who have lost everything. I just keep hoping it rains, but we sure as hell don't need more lightening.

(19 posts)Nothing in the reports says it's been lost to the fire, only under threat so everyone has evacuated.

(8,756 posts)Valley fire in California burns 40,000 acres in less than 24 hours
Posted on September 13, 2015 by Bill Gabbert
(UPDATED at 4:40 p.m. PT, September 13, 2015)
The Valley Fire has continued to spread today but visibility kept aviation resources grounded until mid-afternoon, after which several air tankers were dispatched to the fire.
CAL FIRE spokesperson Daniel Berlant said while they have not had a chance to conduct a detailed damage assessment he is aware that hundreds of structures have been destroyed.
At 4:10 p.m. CAL FIRE estimated that it has burned 50,000 acres.
Additional areas have been added to the evacuation list. Call the fire information line, (707) 967-4207, to hear a recorded message with the details.

(3,569 posts)You can help the people of Harbin recover from this devastating fire.
If you have ever benefited from a retreat at Harbin over the years, we are asking for your help.
At the time of the fire on Saturday 9/12, a total of 285 residents, practitioners and local staff worked at Harbin from phone operators and yoga instructors, to cooks, carpenters, housekeepers, gardeners and water system operators. A large percentage of these people were not typically seen by our guests, but their contributions were critical to providing the Harbin experience for those who came here for retreats, workshops and day visits.
Now, many of these individuals have simultaneously lost their homes, possessions, community of friends, neighbors, and place of work. If they were the only ones in this situation, our resident community would pull together to support them. But since this tragedy is being experienced by all workers at Harbin, we are asking our past guests and friends for assistance.
hearthandAlthough local relief agencies may supply some clothes, goods and services for recovery, it is financial support that will be most needed by these individuals over the next few months. If you can spare any amount, large or small, please donate to the Residents & Staff fund now.
One hundred percent of the money collected will be distributed to current Harbin residents and employees split evenly, regardless of job or title in approximately four weeks, when Harbin can no longer guarantee further paycheck. (Staff who have financial support outside of Harbin can volunteer to refuse the donation, sharing it with all others. Donations received after the initial distribution will continue to be dispensed.) Recipients will be able to use the money to address their most immediate, essential needs.
We are sure there will be opportunities to donate to the recovery and rebuilding of Harbin Hot Springs infrastructure and buildings in the future, but the most pressing needs at this time exist with our people. If possible, consider donating what you might have spent on your next retreat at Harbin, or more.
To donate online using Paypal, click here or on the button below. (You do not need a PayPal account to make a donation. See link at bottom of donation page.)
Checks may be made out to Heart Consciousness Church Residents and Staff, and mailed to: WestAmerica Bank, 1110 Washington St., Calistoga, CA 94515.
Donations may be tax deductible; check with your accountant.
Please express your gratitude to the residents and staff of Harbin, and acknowledge their years of service to our guests and our mission.
Make a generous donation today!
