Alan Kurdi's death mocked by Charlie Hebdo

Source: Toronto Sun

Still "Je Suis Charlie?"

Many of Charlie Hebdo's supporters have taken to social media to blast the French satirical magazine's latest cover, which features a cartoon poking fun at the death of a three-year-old Syrian refugee, whose body washed up on a Turkish beach.

The cartoon, on the issue entitled “Wecome to migrants!” features a drawing of Alan Kurdi face down in water, and the headline that translates to: “So close to the goal.”

On the beach is a McDonald's billboard that advertises two-for-one children’s meals.

Another cartoon inside features a Jesus-like figure on the ocean. Next to him are the legs of a child sicking out of the water. The caption read: “Proof that Europe is Christian. Christians walk on water. Muslim kids drown.”

they might have a right to publish, but that right does not make flowers grow in a pile of manure.

what is the point of this except to exploit people's pain?

The reaction itself indicates a peculiar moral blindness, if they think those cartoons are "mocking" the death of that child.

But, discomfort over a cartoon is certainly a more comfortable thing to do.

Some people can't understand satire. There is a sign on the beach saying "2 for 1 happy meal deals for children" from McDonald's and that is the point of the "so close to the goal" title. It hits Europe for failing to render aid to the migrants. Commercialism over people.

used to do that quite well too. I have no problem with that whatsoever. I defend free speech. I've learned a lot of great stuff from biting humor. I support it wholeheartedly.

The extremely biting satire may not come across well for people who are not fluent in the French language. The people most insulted by the satire are the comfy European and American citizens who possess an amazing capacity to ignore the plight of these refugees. It is shameful how these people are being treated as they flee for their lives. War refugees have always been mistreated. Shame on all of us for not protesting the horrendous treatment of the victims of war.

Instead of being outraged at the satirists, be outraged at the failure of Western Civilization to take care of the victims of war.

et un peu plus xénophobe. La tragédie acerbe a changé la magnanimité des survivants.

C'est Hebdo qui n'est plus Charlie.
