The Greater Chicago Food Depository is one of the best charities in the country. But they are only one of thousands that will be hurt if the Child Nutrition Reauthorization expires and nothing replaces it. Worse than that, hundreds of thousands of children will have no way to eat a decent breakfast, lunch or even as little as a snack.

Feeding America is another great charity. They're encouraging people to take action by "Taking the spoon." Please take action. Don't let the republicans cause one more child to go hungry.

Take part in Hunger Action Month by participating in National Call-in Day and advocating for the future of child nutrition programs. On September 30, the Child Nutrition Reauthorization, which guides and funds programs including summer and afterschool meals, school breakfast and WIC, is set to expire. We must tell Congress to protect and strengthen these programs for children in our community.

Be sure to connect with your Representative and both of your Senators by calling back. Once you are connected to their office, say your name and the town you are calling from.

Most importantly, let them know you are calling about the Child Nutrition Reauthorization and deliver this important message:

For your senators, deliver this message:
"As your constituent and supporter of the Greater Chicago Food Depository, please co-sponsor the Hunger Free Summer for Kids Act (S. 1966) and the Summer Meals Act (S. 613)."

For your representative, deliver this message:
"As your constituent and supporter of the Greater Chicago Food Depository, I would like to see Congress pass a child nutrition bill that includes these three priorities:

Streamline regulations for summer and after school meals.

A summer EBT program to help families when school is out.

A non-congregate meal option so program operators like food banks can reach kids who can't access summer meal sites."
