At a news conference late on Monday, police in Gautier said they had initially contacted Lamb by phone, and later followed his car. After pulling over, he jumped out of the vehicle.
When officers gave chase they heard a single gunshot and found Lamb dead, Delta State University police official Lynn Buford told AP news agency.
