After reports of hearing screams and no answer at the door, deputies charge in, scaring kids inside

Evan Aken didn’t hear the deputies pounding on the door.

It was Aug. 26 — Evan’s 13th birthday — and the eighth-grader was at home baby-sitting his 3-year-old brother, Gabriel.

He later told his parents that he didn’t hear the officers because he was in a room with the door closed, on the phone, playing a geometry game.

Outside, three Douglas County sheriff’s deputies and a supervisor were knocking with growing insistence. A 911 caller had reported hearing a woman crying and screaming. The first deputy who responded heard screams inside the home, too.

They didn't shoot the kids, they didn't shoot a family pet. They got a report of screams inside, one of those at the door heard further sounds that could have been screams, no response, so yeah. It could have very well been domestic violence, with another woman being attacked or even murdered by a partner. So I've got no real problems with that incident as reported.

because he's in his room with volume on something turned up. The story doesn't say
where the 3 year old was, but I'd wager he wasn't in the same room.

If I were mom, I wouldn't leave that 13 year old home alone with the toddler again--at least not
for some time. And I'd also make the 13 year old pay for the repairs to the front door.

Not even fucking close.

This story is about reasonable police action. Most of the other stories we read (note that I state "stories" not "incidents&quot are about extremely over-aggressive use of force with bullets used as investigative tools.

And any knee-jerk moron who complains when police bust into a home and sprays bullets without reasonably assessing the the situation IS RIGHT! Gain some perspective.

Just remember next time you scream for any reason (horror movie, dropped something...) it now means the police can kick in your door and search your house.
