Sen. Cruz Says Obama Administration Will Intensify Focus on Regulations

By Stephen Lee

Dec. 5 {2013} — Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) told a gathering of Republican state legislators Dec. 5 that he expects the Obama administration to spend the rest of its term dedicated to moving its agenda through regulations.

“I think the Obama administration has decided it's going to focus all of its energy on executive power, executive orders and regulation,” said Cruz, speaking to a full ballroom at the American Legislative Exchange Council's (ALEC) policy summit.

Cruz Calls Shift ‘Disturbing.'

“They've largely written off Congress, they've largely written off the legislative process, the constitutional process,” said Cruz. “They intend to go on the executive side. And I have to tell you, the abuse of power, the lawlessness, is one of those disturbing aspects of this administration.”

ALEC is a coalition of state legislators and business representatives that creates model legislation for adoption throughout the states. Virtually all of its legislative members are Republican (43 OSHR 1169, 12/5/13).
