this afternoon at lunch when I was listening to the news and he was quoted as saying "I never thought so many people would care about a Muslim kid" in regards to the hashtag supporting him.

It plain embarrasses me how he was treated.

Yes Ahmed, many of us care. Even this old atheist cares. Keep learning and be well.

I used to work for TSA at a major airport. Yes, I was one of those people who made you take off your shoes. A 17 year old French kid came through, and the x-ray operator spotted something in his carry-on, so we asked him what it was. He said it was a clip from an M-1 carbine a friend let him fire. He kept the clip as a souvenir. Unfortunately, we had to call the cops because police involvement was required whenever we discovered ammunition, parts of firearms, etc. Once the cops got there and found out he was French, they started rolling in like a herd of bison. Pretty soon, we had eight cops standing around, all firing questions at once, ordering the kid around, asking him what he was doing in the US. Of course, this is the way they always treat anybody who is not cop, but they laid it on really thick because this kid was French.
