Jeb Bush wants Margaret Thatcher on $10 note

Never mind the GOP ideological wanking, how about an American woman?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-34276001

US Republican presidential hopeful Jeb Bush has picked the UK's former Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, as his choice for the face of the $10 bill.

The former Florida governor made the surprise suggestion during a televised debate for the top Republicans vying for the presidential nomination.

All 11 candidates were asked who they would choose, now the US Treasury has announced plans to put a woman on the redesigned note.

Mr Bush's choice drew applause.

http://newsthump.com/2015/09/17/margaret-thatcher-10-bills-to-be-double-quilted-for-extra-softness/

Ten-dollar bills featuring the face of Margaret Thatcher are set to be soft, strong and thoroughly absorbent.

Following Presidential Candidate Jeb Bush’s suggestion that the former PM’s face should adorn the money of the USA, the United States Mint received the unusual request for the notes to be “quilted yet strong”.

“I can only imagine they wanted to reflect the simultaneously delicate yet strong leadership of Margaret Thatcher” said Martin Kloons, Head of Money Printing, “it is a wonderful tribute and very thoughtful.”

Demand for the new bills has been unprecedented, particularly in the North of England, for reasons which remain unclear.

Although women didn't have the vote yet, some were quite influential. One that comes to mind is Abigail Adams, who like Barbara was wife of one president and mother of another, but unlike Barbara had a brain of her own. She was a serious intellectual scholar, and a campaigner for women's rights and against slavery.

Of somewhat later individuals - what about the amazing heroine Harriet Tubman?

Jeb Bush wants Margaret Thatcher on $10 note, BBC, 17 September 2015

And, just like clockwork, twelve hours later:

Jeb Bush Walks Back Pitch for Thatcher on $10 Bill, NBC, September 17, 2015

Jeb Bush might be changing his mind about his statement that he'd like to see former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on the $10 bill.

In an exclusive interview with NBC News, Bush instead said that he'd like to see the American people decide which woman deserves to be on U.S. currency, suggesting that a question about the bill during the second GOP presidential debate Wednesday night was not "the most relevant thing in the world."

.....

While Republicans harbor plenty of admiration for the former leader of the Conservative Party in the U.K., Bush was ridiculed on social media for saying that he would nominate Thatcher for the honor rather than an American citizen.

.....

It just runs in the family, ya know?

Thu Sep 17, 2015, 04:29 PM
Sep 2015

What the.....??

His choice confounded many viewers watching on CNN, not only because Thatcher was not American but also because she was a very polarizing figure in politics as prime minister in the U.K. from 1979 to 1990.

The surprise pick quickly sparked both a confused and shocked reaction on social media from users confounded by the late head of the Conservative party being thrown into the GOP debate.

“Still can’t believe Jeb picked Margaret Thatcher for the $10 bill. I’m trying to imagine his thought process there and can’t,” wrote one Twitter user.

While another simply called it “the wrong answer in many ways.”

While a favorite of Ronald Reagan’s supporters, the longest-serving prime minister of the 20th century and the only woman to have held the office in Britain, Thatcher was hated by many in her home country for her uncompromising politics and leadership style.

She was nicknamed the “Iron Lady” (also the title of a 2011 biographical film starring Meryl Streep) and news of her death at 87 in April 2013 sparked the celebratory song “Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead.”

See the tweets below.

Bush wants Thatcher because she was a "strong leader" and we need a "strong leader." Nothing about honoring Rosa Parks or Frances Perkins or another notable American woman who made America a better place for millions of its citizens. It's always about strength with the GOP, it's a fixation to the exclusion of everything else. It's so deep in their mindset. I don't know what psychologists call it, but I call it power worship. Only power impresses them - it's never about compassion or intellect or simply doing what's right. Only might makes right in their world.
