Never mind the GOP ideological wanking, how about an American woman?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-34276001
The former Florida governor made the surprise suggestion during a televised debate for the top Republicans vying for the presidential nomination.
All 11 candidates were asked who they would choose, now the US Treasury has announced plans to put a woman on the redesigned note.
Mr Bush's choice drew applause.

(41,205 posts)Eww, wish I hadn't clicked. She did quite the reverse of making Britain 'great'.
And why would an American political candidate want Maggie, rather than Ronnie or someone American from that era if it has to be some 80s RW nut?

(14,737 posts)Following Presidential Candidate Jeb Bushs suggestion that the former PMs face should adorn the money of the USA, the United States Mint received the unusual request for the notes to be quilted yet strong.
I can only imagine they wanted to reflect the simultaneously delicate yet strong leadership of Margaret Thatcher said Martin Kloons, Head of Money Printing, it is a wonderful tribute and very thoughtful.
Demand for the new bills has been unprecedented, particularly in the North of England, for reasons which remain unclear.
Good one.

(35,648 posts)In fact, true for others, too. Some wanted their mother on the bill. Sheesh, you can't think of a woman other than your mother?

(11,843 posts)so he went with a woman that was associated with Reagan. Ronald Reagan is the answer to every question, in John Ellis tiny little brain.

(2,334 posts)Off the top of my head it's tough to think of a conservative heroic American woman so I sympathize with him there. Sandra Day O'Conner? First Supreme Court Justice? Completely drawing blanks here.....just googled how the candidates answered....only four answered with American women that weren't relatives or duplicated by other candidates. Rubio (Rosa Parks) Christie (Abigail Adams) Walker (Clara Barton founder of Am. Red Cross) and Paul (Susan B Anthony)

(41,205 posts)Although women didn't have the vote yet, some were quite influential. One that comes to mind is Abigail Adams, who like Barbara was wife of one president and mother of another, but unlike Barbara had a brain of her own. She was a serious intellectual scholar, and a campaigner for women's rights and against slavery.
Of somewhat later individuals - what about the amazing heroine Harriet Tubman?

But the post about Ma Barker or Lizzie Borden and the donuts applauding just floored me!!
What does those answers say about 1) thinking and answering off the cuff and 2) Love of this country?
I mean: Betsy Ross, Rosa Parks, Eleanor Roosevelt, Susan B. Anthony, Amelia Earhart (apology for misspelling), Mary Todd Lincoln, how about the Woman's Right to Vote Movement ?? But please pick an American woman -- damn it guys it is our country or maybe you don't really care about OUR COUNTRY??

Jeb Bush Walks Back Pitch for Thatcher on $10 Bill, NBC, September 17, 2015
In an exclusive interview with NBC News, Bush instead said that he'd like to see the American people decide which woman deserves to be on U.S. currency, suggesting that a question about the bill during the second GOP presidential debate Wednesday night was not "the most relevant thing in the world."
.....
While Republicans harbor plenty of admiration for the former leader of the Conservative Party in the U.K., Bush was ridiculed on social media for saying that he would nominate Thatcher for the honor rather than an American citizen.
.....
It just runs in the family, ya know?

The surprise pick quickly sparked both a confused and shocked reaction on social media from users confounded by the late head of the Conservative party being thrown into the GOP debate.
Still cant believe Jeb picked Margaret Thatcher for the $10 bill. Im trying to imagine his thought process there and cant, wrote one Twitter user.
While another simply called it the wrong answer in many ways.
While a favorite of Ronald Reagans supporters, the longest-serving prime minister of the 20th century and the only woman to have held the office in Britain, Thatcher was hated by many in her home country for her uncompromising politics and leadership style.
She was nicknamed the Iron Lady (also the title of a 2011 biographical film starring Meryl Streep) and news of her death at 87 in April 2013 sparked the celebratory song Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead.

(7,133 posts)Bush wants Thatcher because she was a "strong leader" and we need a "strong leader." Nothing about honoring Rosa Parks or Frances Perkins or another notable American woman who made America a better place for millions of its citizens. It's always about strength with the GOP, it's a fixation to the exclusion of everything else. It's so deep in their mindset. I don't know what psychologists call it, but I call it power worship. Only power impresses them - it's never about compassion or intellect or simply doing what's right. Only might makes right in their world.
