"...the lure of rancid, right-wing populism was too great, and now the Republicans are tripping over

themselves talking about invasions, fences on the border to both Mexico and Canada, and changing our U.S. Constitution to prevent babies born in the U.S. from ever being voters.

Why the Republicans Secretly Hate the Assimilation of Legal Immigrants

Well the debate is over and, if the Trump spectacle were not so dangerous, watching the Republicans devour each other in the shark tank would be fun. But America is more than a reality show, and the stakes are too high for pure enjoyment.

Wednesday night, in the "children's table" warm up debate, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal joined the anti-immigrant fray with the memorable statement that "immigration without assimilation is an invasion."

For a while (after 2012) it looked like Republicans had learned their lesson, and were going to engage in constructive bi-partisan solutions. But the lure of rancid, right-wing populism was too great, and now the Republicans are tripping over themselves talking about invasions, fences on the border to both Mexico and Canada, and changing our U.S. Constitution to prevent babies born in the U.S. from ever being voters. Not to mention the racist bloviating by Donald Trump, calling Mexicans "rapists" and drug dealers.

The anger generated by the nativist rants coming from Donald Trump and the Republican party look like they are fueling a growing political revolution in immigrant communities. This is one reality show that will be fun to watch, and I am going to do my very best to help my friends to make it happen.

Nativism vs inclusion and diversity. Glad that Democrats promote the latter. Sad that a major political party sees its future in nativism and fear-mongering rather than dealing constructively with reality.

couldnt afford to do it if it was legal.

Thanks to the Koch Bros, Heritage foundation and Reagan and his goons, nobody has any money.

In a very direct way.

When you do NOT own people but you take all their money away, then you are really helping to lay groundwork for your own downfall.

That guarantees the Dems win.

And of course back when they made that deal Bill had every reason to believe his wife would be the one winning.

people would talk about the book as if it were some great piece of literature.

I tried to watch it recently, and I find that I simply can not watch that film (let alone read the book) without being disgusted at the slavery apologism. How did people not get that, and how do they still not see it? It's revolting. And Vivien Leigh's accent was not convincing.

Not a post that is entirely responsive to you, just wanted to put that in there.

That black people were better off as slaves...so I think the reality is that they want to own slaves again.

Sadly we are living that nightmare in this reality. I think all the hate manifested from the 1980s, is finally gushing forth now that they see Trump with no filter.

compete fairly , most of them, and they sure as hell know they have a lot to answer for, and are scared of losing power.

This is basically ALL gop and teaparty and 50% or more of the so called left.

We white folks have a lot to answer for.

Those of us who are smart, know it and would like to try and do the right thing and avoid chaos.

not being looked after, unconstitutional laws requiring ID are being implemented.

Realize this, it is UNCONSTITUTIONAL to require an ID to vote, yet we have given into that already and are arguing about

WHAT KIND

of ID we will allow the terrorists to require.

Remember, they are terrorists.

Remember what they did the night Obama was elected.

how the Republicans are using similar tactics and speech natives similar to what happened in and during the 1933-1945 time frame. Anyone who grew up in and around this era and had parents or relatives who immigrated from Germany, may or do have memories of the nightly short wave broadcasts of Lord HaHa or even the hate filled speeches of Hitler. And yes,we are hearing the same hate filled speech coming from the GOP candidates for President of these United States.

Just saying it like it is,and as a young kid, heard this hate first hand and never again will I and many others have to speak out about what we are seeing in real time.

nature of his garbage as well as other mouth pieces from the Reich. It is the tone and verbiage the phraseology used by the GOP ers that concern the most. Pure hate and nothing else. Where are the new ideas or proposals, how do we help our Nation going forward. Enough with the War and Hate talk, the GOP has to get real.

16. Don't blame Republicans; blame Adam Smith. The GOP simply HAS to do immigrant baiting
Fri Sep 18, 2015, 05:55 PM
Sep 2015

It's the fundamental truth of the Law of Supply and Demand that forces Republicans to stir up nativist prejudices and paranoid resentments because that's the only viable strategy they have. Outright racism is passe--it will lose them more votes than they'd gain. They have to switch to dog-whistle innuendos and identity politics. Even the Confederate flag shtick is wearing thin. But if they don't have some form of moral panic to incite, they'd be left to appealing to voters based on a foreign policy voters have already rejected and an economic philosophy that actively destroys most voters' fiscal solvency.

Truth is not their friend. If they want to compete in the electoral marketplace, they have to use divisiveness, subterfuge, and outright lies to win public support. Encouraging hatreds between various demographic groups is just about all they have left--and even homophobia is starting to wear thin. That's where the supply of votes can be replenished through increased xenophobic propaganda. If you're a Republican pol, that's just about the only game in town. Trying to talk them off the immigrant bashing is like trying to reason with a heroin junkie. You can try, but they're gonna need that hate fix soon, so you're wasting your breath to try.
