I wondered why the mother of Baby Doe was so acquiescent in her child's death. One of the fundy's principles is that women be subservient to their husbands/males. If you have ever been beaten down enough emotionally as a female child you would understand how women do not fight back the abuse boyfriends and stepfathers give to children not of their own DNA. That in itself shows anyone with common sense that ideal of women not being taught that they are as worthwhile and capable as any male contributes to the mother not stopping the abuse. It is hard for people who have not experienced abuse of that nature to understand what I am talking about.....but that is no excuse for a culture to tolerate religious cruelty and/or cultural stupidity.

I have seen a whole lot of cases where religion has nothing to do with child abuse by a mom's new boyfriend. The fact is that the new guy rarely has much interest in the last guy's kid. And usually, the mom is willfully blind to what goes on, because of her need for a guy in her life. And it has nothing to do with religion.

part of the problem. If there was a healthy society women would not tolerate the child abuse...what you talk about illustrates the sickness in our society. The need for male attention despite the cost means something went very wrong in that woman's upbringing and it is usually abandonment by the father
