Because American workers are too coddled with too much pay, American jobs are lost to outsourcing and off shoring. And businesses cannot afford to create jobs that are too expensive. So if American workers want more jobs they will have to do more work but expect less pay. Cheaper desperate workers in the wings will work for less. Wathc your back.

(14,570 posts)That's been the meme that has been used for decades to bust unions, drive wages and benefits down and steal worker dignity to replace it with fear.
Here's the problem: The primacy of the shareholder philosophy calls for CEOs to maximize shareholder earnings at the expense of EVERYTHING - labor, the customers, and the environment.
This is why the government should force changes in corporate charters to force CEOs to hold the interests of labor, the consumer, the environment and shareholders equal. Without workers there can be NO profit, so why should workers not share in it?
Why should people have to live in fear they will lose their job, have to work insane hours for pay too low to really make ends meet, let alone get ahead.
Fuck these corporatists.

(24,692 posts)Well said.
"FEAR" being the republican guiding philosophy - specifically FEAR of OTHERS.
"Be afraid of minorities, gays, unions, immigrants, refugees, foreigners of all types! They are not a part of US! (By which we mean: white, male, straight Americans - but the 'liberal media' makes it hard for us to be that blunt.)
And ignore that billionaire behind the curtain. The poor minority or immigrant or foreigner is your real enemy!"
Just, "Be afraid! And vote republican! We will protect you from THEM (whom we hope you have learned to blame for your problems)."

(14,255 posts)It is not raise everybody up, it is how dare Americans have it so good.
The basic premise you will see from 1%ers and shillers is that the 1% will keep all of their money, and add to it disproportionately, through increased prices, and whatever is grudgingly given as wages will be taken from those who are earning a living and given to those who cannot. The rising tide is engineered to lift the yachts and overturn whatever boats are still floating. The intent was never to improve the plight of that "poor Vietnamese farmer", it is to bring the rest of us down to that level.
The only thing that will perturb them is when American workers cannot buy goods and services on top of what they need just to survive. The corporations, the MIC, and the insurance companies will be fighting over that smaller paycheck. And taxes paid will be channeled to the corporations in the form of money won in corporate lawsuits, leaving less money for infrastructure, schools, and safety nets.
As is planned.
