Is it me, or did she fail to answer the question? She never directly said she had no knowledge. She only said that an investigation proved she had no knowledge. It's an inquiry she was conflicted about during her 2010 run for the U.S. Senate.

It's also a business partnership that worked out so well, HP became Iran's top seller of printers with 41 percent of the market share by 2007. The stellar performance earned the foreign subsidiary that was making the sales, Redington Gulf, high praise from HP.

6. I'm going to give her this one

One of my 'five pillars' I'm responsible for is import/export control. The person/individual is personally held responsible that triggers the illegal export or financial transaction. I could see that unless they accepted money directly from Iran -and exported directly to Iran - then they arent' responsible. That's the way S.O.S. and CBP would see it.

I'd also say that as the CEO - she would be the last person to know. Who should have been aware is the Sales team (from tradeshow talk alone) and eventually their reverse logistics team for repairs and refab.


This morning -

CBP contacts me and a fraud manager - is this Major Cell Phone Manufacturer phone being shipped to Nigeria fraud.

We aren't responsible for what a non customer (fraudster) 'customer' does with the device. However I'm still able to elect to have that device returned to me (ill gotten gains) for refab or destruction.


Another example - employee elects to use my Fed Ex account to ship to Belarus 3 devices purchased at our store at full price on behalf of the customer.
Employee does not reach out to Import/Export H Security team . . . and ships.
Employee is personally held legally responsible. Not fed ex and not the oversight team. Devices intercepted - they lost their job, they were fined (still under house arrest I think) because they were shipping to someone on the BIS list (who was doing business with Iran).

The CEO of my company wouldn't know about that.


BTW - Carly Fiorina sucks -she sucks rotten eggs. And she's a lying liar about a lot of things - but on this? I'll give her a pass.

The sales to Iran were a massive volume of equipment- even if they went trough a third party there is no way the people running HP didn't know where they were ending up just because them wouldn't ignore and just take that volume of sales for granted.

I'm sure it was all wink wink, nod nod, these are going to XXXX if you know what I mean type stuff where they never admitted it on paper- but HP had to know somethibg was up.
