http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3146256/Was-relentlessly-gay-yard-campaign-giant-GoFundMe-hoax-Mom-raised-43-000-claiming-Christian-neighbor-homophobic-accused-FAKING-threats.html

Baltimore mother-of-four Julie Baker said she got an angry letter from her Christian neighbor about her front yard earlier this month

Anonymous writer objected to colored lamps spelling 'love, family'

The letter called her yard 'relentlessly gay' and told her to 'tone it down'

Baker raised $48,000 to make her yard 'even more relentlessly gay'

She is accused of writing the letter herself, based on similarities in grammatical errors between the letter and her own writing on GoFundMe

Detectives report Baker was unable to produce the letter when asked for it

Baker claims she has 'not been anything but authentic'

A few months ago a fearful and ignorant act set off an avalanche. The avalanche was a thing of beauty, of support and of love. The snow kicked up into the sun and created a crystalline rainbow. Avalanches are relentless in their movement and breathtaking as they rumble down to the earth, shaking the ground. While thousands donated and thousands more offered support, the truth is that this project went from an artistic snow ball tossed in the face of hate to an avalanche. To deal with the debris, which includes taxes and an overabundance of resources it is with a saddened heart that all donations will be returned. If a time machine were available, it would have all ended at the original requested amount. It was never about the money but being happy in the face of intolerance. Do not for an instant think the support of spirit, art, love and monetary donations were for naught. A statement was heard across the globe, loud and clear was our avalanche. I ask you to take your donations back and give to local artists or educational nonprofit organizations.

Actually, I bet the local children love those rainbow lights etc - maybe that has contributed to the idiot letter writer's ire.

I like Julie Baker' response.

ETA: I see that the story of the letter has now been called into question.

I'd post a picture of it if it wasn't such a hassle and if I thought it necessary.

What is the trigger warning for?

Is it for that proportional font?

Does Dan Rather even read this site?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, she received money from crowd sourcing? I guess scamming doesn't intrude on their TOS to get that sweet sweet bigot money.

Is this another example of a hoax perhaps? I'm getting to be a bit cynical in my grand old age but these always seem to be perpetrated by the one who is 'attacked'.

I do enjoy the rainbow colored Leyden jars, are they connected to a power source?

25. Naw, he wasn't wearing pajamas, he was wearing a present from Dale
Tue Sep 22, 2015, 12:30 PM
Sep 2015

Dale had gotten Roy a brand new pair of custom-made blue suede shoes for his birthday.

Roy had some riding to do, and he kept those shoes on when he and Trigger went riding out on the range.

A cougar jumped up at him, grabbed his foot with its mouth, tore the crap out of the shoes and tried to pull Roy off the horse.

Trigger reared up, the cougar let go, and Trigger came down with his hoof on the cougar's head and killed it.

It was such a fine specimen that Roy wanted to make a rug out of the skin, so he slung the dead cougar over the back end of the saddle, and rode home.

When he got home, Dale saw him coming and said:

Pardon me, Roy....

...is that the cat that chewed your new shoes?

It would be fun to tell that person to fuck himself/herself. . . . But these days, he/she would probably pop out a gun and shoot and then claim self defense.

A Christian area? Since when do these people think they have the right to not only control their own religions but declare the entire area "christian"? There are so many things here that just push my buttons, but I guess it's the blatant STUPIDITY I find the worst.

There's nothing "relentlessly gay" about that display, and anyone who thought so would have to have a level of sophistication not possessed by the ostensibly "concerned" note writer.

Are Christmas lights "relentlessly gay?" Is anything multi-colored "relentlessly gay?"

I mean, come on.

And what did that money end up getting spent on? Hmmm. Not a damn thing, apparently.

I have concluded that this "homeowner" is a grifting fraudster.

On 24 June 2015 we spoke to a detective at Baker’s local precinct, to whom we were referred by individuals connected with the Relentlessly Gay campaign. Although Baker had stated the previous day that police were “satisfied” with her claim, ]the detective to whom we spoke said that Baker was either unwilling or unable to produce the letter in question, and that she had maintained it was no longer in her possession. The detective also indicated that he had attempted to meet with Baker in person the previous day but was unable to do so.

Update: On 23 July 2015, Perry Hall Maryland’s Patch site published an article titled “$40K Later, ‘Relentlessly Gay’ Yard Unchanged,” which reported:

The Baltimore County woman who raised more than $43,000 to decorate her home with rainbows after she said a neighbor wrote a threatening note about her “relentlessly gay” yard does not appear to have purchased any decorations.
