It has "adult humor"! The horror! Have these people not seen an episode of Spongebob Squarepants?
The organization touts a mission statement saying that they are trying to stop the exploitation of our children, especially by the entertainment media and stand against the immorality, violence, vulgarity and profanity the entertainment media is throwing at your children. Or more succinctly put, We want our children to have the best chance possible of living in a moral society.
So it might come as no surprise that The Muppets TV series, which has been described as having a more adult-skewed tone than previous Muppet stories, has the organization in uproar because the show apparently makes nonchalant jokes about sex and drugs. Find out more about One Million Moms boycotting The Muppets below.
In an e-mail sent out to all their subscribers, members and followers, which they also posted on their website, the organization says of The Muppets:
ABC hopes children watch the show and predict they would enjoy some of the humor, but 1MM would disagree. It is not the show it once was. ABC has ruined The Muppets. How many parents want to explain the punchline of sexually charged jokes to young children?
Many parents unknowingly will let their children watch an episode only to find out its perverted nature too late, unless they are alerted ahead of time. 1MM and others need to get the word out to families to avoid this program at all costs.

(1,884 posts)How are they supposed to function as adults if everyone keeps treating them like kids?

(14,449 posts)Which is why I boycott none of them. They lost their value when practically everything insults someone. I can't stand the muppets but this is in a long line of stupid boycotts.

(1,587 posts)I watched the original series, and it was definitely aimed at grownups. Ninety percent of everything they've done is like that. Other than the stuff on Sesame Street, it's over kids' heads.

(5,064 posts)Unless you're a Nielsen family, ABC has no idea if you're watching their show or not. So go ahead AFA, "boycott" all you want...but it won't affect the Muppets' ratings one iota.

(4,959 posts)LOL. In 1976, the original series...

(75,480 posts)Bugs Bunny and friends were full of adult humor and it was done deliberately so the parents would also enjoy the cartoons. It was believed if the adults liked the cartoons they would take their children to the matinees to see them.
Honestly, shouldn't we be moving forward not back into the Victorian era?

(9,933 posts)Includes adult humor specifically designed to engage parents and children. Producers know who controls the viewing selections of young audiences. These people are bananas.

(51,311 posts)waaaay subtle jokes---Fozzie Bear didn't care for all the responses to his Lovelorn ad (he was "a passionate bear" , and then said they were "WRONG....not wrong, wrong for ME!" Heh.
Second one I caught (I tuned in a bit late) was after Denise seductively spoke into Kermit's ear, he said he couldn't get up to get his own brownie sundae because "I'm too full."

Maybe they're going to boycott it on top of not watching it already -- like a boycott squared.
I'd like to see the media cleaned up a bit, but attacking the Muppets is just stupid.
