Oklahoma Pre-K teacher allegedly calls being left-handed ‘evil’ and ‘sinister’

http://kfor.com/2015/09/21/oklahoma-pre-k-teacher-allegedly-calls-being-left-handed-evil-and-sinister/

A 4-year-old was allegedly forced by his teacher to write with his right hand, even though he’s left-handed.

The child was sent home with a letter about how left-handedness is often associated with evil and the devil....

It's his first year at Oakes Elementary in Okemah, but his mom kept him home Monday after a dispute with his teacher over being left-handed....

“From picking things up to throwing things, to batting, to writing, to just coloring you’d do at home with him, he’s always, always used his left hand,” Alisha Sands said.

The nuns would tie her left arm down so she had to learn to write with her right hand. She wrote right handed and did most other things left handed. In turn, she kind of passively did the same thing to me, which taught me to be somewhat ambidextrous, too. The down side, for me, is I sometimes really have to stop and think to correctly identify right from left. That proved to be a real challenge during marching drills, in basic training. I guess the brain can re-wire itself, only so far.

sin·is·ter
adjective: sinister

1. giving the impression that something harmful or evil is happening or will happen.
"there was something sinister about that murmuring voice"
2. Heraldryarchaic
of, on, or toward the left-hand side (in a coat of arms, from the bearer's point of view, i.e., the right as it is depicted).

Origin
late Middle English (in the sense ‘malicious, underhanded’): from Old French sinistre or Latin sinister ‘left.’

So, technically, she is sort of correct, in an obscure and irrelevant sense. But I'm sure that's enough for her!
