Whether you are taking a traditional taxi, rideshare, black car, whatever:
1. Make sure your phone is charged! You cannot rideshare without it, you cannot call 911 in case of an emergency, and many taxis notify passengers when close or having problems.
2. Know who you are expecting. If you are getting an Uber, Lyft, etc. make sure the license plate and driver matches. If it is a cab, is it the company you are expecting? Try to get the dispatcher to give you a description of the car if it is not familiar to you.
3 . Get a picture of the car, if possible the license plate, perhaps even the driver. Send them, along with your itinerary and ETA to a friend or family member.
4. Don't reveal too many details about yourself. *Casually* get the driver to talk more about themselves. It feeds their egos, and if there is a problem, it may give you valuable information. If it is not a problem, you've had a cool conversation with someone.
5. If you don't feel comfortable, for whatever reason, don't ride. Find another way.
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - Chicago Police are warning people to watch out for fake Uber drivers in the city.
According to an alert from the Chicago Police Department, twice in the past month, people waiting on Uber rides have been robbed.
The incidents were reported earlier this month in River North and Old Town. In both of those incidents, police say two men in a black car pull up and invite the person waiting for a lift into their car. Then, the suspects rob them of their debit cards and pin number information.

The vehicle reportedly involved in the incidents is described as a black, four door Chevy Impala with a tinted rear window.
